Did a fresh installation yesterday of Debian 10 Buster XFCE.

Everything is running well except the clock.
When I try to fix the clock in the panel in properties and close the menu it dissapears.

I also tried installing Cairo-doc-click-plug-in and that's not working either.
Any ideas guys on how to get a clock working?

For the cairo-dock-clock-plugin to work you need to install the cairo-dock, I think. Haven't used it for a while. As for the xfce4-clock-plugin it should work out of the box so it's pretty weird that it doesn't, you might have better luck asking in xfce forum http://forum.xfce.org/

Hope this helps! :)

I already have the xfce cairo-dock installed.
It was there at first boot up.

Thanks for the link to the xfce forum.

I had the same problem with the clock in Linux Mint 19.2 XFCE.
So....I tried the fix for Debian that worked for Mint. Sadly, it doesn't work for Debian.

Installing the Cairo Dock worked.
I now have a working clock.

However the Home directory and all of the other directories don't launch from the Cairo Dock. Bummer!

Any ideas?

I had this issue too. What I ended up doing was, setting the time like I wanted it, but didn't close out the "Properties" window and just logged out. When you log back in, it is there and set up in the configuration you wanted. Kind of a pain to have to do that but it works.

Thanks Swerved, that worked for me.-:)

The same happened to me. I found that the clocks were still there, but were too small to see.

If you mouseover where they were you may see a tiny outline or if you had tooltip enabled the time/date would show up. ...or mine was a special case.

Nothing I tried would restore their original size.

So your clock is still too small to see?

It's just a blank frame where the clock used to be on the panel. If you mouseover the spot where it used to be you may see the outline of a small frame, if it's the same situation that I experienced.

...and yes, I haven't pursued how to fix it. So, I right clicked the small frame to get preferences and enabled tool-tip so I could see the time in that locale with a mouseover.

G'day all, and welcome @Swinebolt :)

Here's a workaround you can try (not a solution, there is a longstanding bug involved):

1. Right-click that small frame to get the preferences, and modify any fields you want eg military time to AM/PM, smart tip for date format, &c, BUT LEAVE PROPERTIES OPEN.

2. Open Terminal and type and enter the following (my comments are prefaced with a #)

Code:
xfce4-panel -r

# OR

xfce4-panel --reset

# That's a double dash

That will reset the clock to what you asked for and close Properties in the process.

3. Reboot your computer and see that the changes stick.

4. DO not monkey with the clock again, the same problem will occur.

Not a long-term solution, but works.

Cheers
