Hey guys and gals,
Tell me now ---- does anyone still use Windows 10? LOL.
If they do, how do they get anything done?
I've been away from my Win 10 laptop for a while and just went back to check something out.
Wow! Took about 45 minutes before I could even begin to start something I wanted to do.
Then when I went to shut down, I had no choice but to check for updates and shut down.
I cannot believe the difference between Linux Mint and Windows 10. It's like a race between a Formula 1 race car and
a crippled turtle that's ready to die!!!!!
Find it hard to believe that I was so 'duped' for such a long time.
I have become a Linux evangelist; telling anyone who will listen about the pluses they will get with Linux.
Thanks Linus: Thanks RHS: Thanks Rob, Wiz, Jas, Condo and all the others on this forum. Without you I would not be doing what I can do today!
Yes, I am tooting your horn. You all deserve it.
Old Geezer,

Hello Tango Charlie,

I use Windows 10 Enterprise everyday at work and have no problems getting things done.

Wife works from home and uses a Windows 10 Enterprise laptop and has no problems getting things done.

The kids use Windows 10 computers at home for school work and they have no problems getting things done.

Don't get me wrong I'm not a big fan of Microsoft or Windows 10 however I don't have any issues or problems using Windows 10 OS.

I'm also a Linux user and an Apple user and don't like some things about those OSs either however I have no problems with using them.

An OS is an OS and I use them all and have no problems with any of my computers regardless of what OS is installed.

I find win 10 to be a thorn in my side.
We still have a laptop with win 10. Soon it too will be Linuxised !

Using win 10 is not intuitive after using Linux.

My objections to win 10 and its founder msoft are deeply seated and I find myself unable to compromise where those beliefs are concerned.

If i was still working and required to use win 10 as part of that scene, that would be a different story.....I would be unwilling/unable to inflict my beliefs on a boss.

Wonderful words, Charlie, and shared by many of us.

And we are thankful for having you amongst our brethren. :)

Some might regard yours as just a fanboy Thread, but I believe it is healthy to express your appreciation of something that has such a wonderful, useful, and enjoyable impact on our lives, whether it be secure online banking, reduction in likelihood of identity theft, reliable communications with our friends and family in these COVID times, huge variety of wallpapers to uplift us, and yes, even challenges to puzzle out, with a little help from your friends.

And don't forget Richard Stallman, in the thankyou list - founder of FOSS organisation.

Cheers

Chris

The only Windows I have running is in a vm because the VPN client for work only has Windows support.

My mis-type. It should have been RMS instead of RHS.
Thanks for the correction.

@wizardfromoz

Are you implying this your little black bag.

Please ignore this.
With help from @stan and a magnifying glass I can see it's the character from the movie.

The best thing that I have to say for Windows is that (some of) the user interfaces (i.e. 7 and 10) are very cool. I will always love the Windows 7 glass look, and Window's 10's blurred side panels in things like the settings app are also pretty cool.

Microsoft had also confirmed that it would start forcing people to upgrade even if they don’t want to.
If you’re on Windows 10 version 1903, you’ll be force upgraded to version 1909 later this month. If you’re on Windows 10 version 1909, you’ll be forcefully upgraded to Windows 10 version 2004 (May 2020 Update) by the spring of next year.

I'm only inquiring what the tiny black bag is @wizardfromoz placed at the bottom of my post #2 and no more.
It's not a "bag"... it is Neo, from The Matrix. This is one of the "reaction" characters that you can apply to someone's post instead of just a simple "Like." Hold your mouse over the Like link (you have to be logged in) and see all the choices you have to "react" with. If you hold your mouse on that character on your post in #2, it will also show you, "neo."

Admittedly it is a very small Neo (came out of @Rob 's brain, which moves in mysterious ways when he is on a coffee hit) - loved Neo.

I would never describe you as a bag of poop, Nelson :)

Friday here in Oz

Never thought that. :)

Perhaps wondered if you may have thought my post was.

I'm glad @stan stepped in and explained.

The wife looked at it and knew exactly what it was and had a good laugh and told me to get my eyes tested and get glasses. :D

Another Linux Mint fanboy here. The only thing I miss about windows is theAdobe photo products. They would have lost me anyway when they went to subscription only.I just dont use them enough to justify a monthly fee. Thanks to all the forums one can find alternative software and some instruction on how to use them. Thanks to all the above mentioned Mint people.I even built a fancy new tower to run Mint on.

you can all thank him direct if you wish at : <[email protected]> he replies occasionally !

Richard Stallman would take great offense and scold you for associating the word opensource with his name, he is not the founder of the FOSS organization but of the FSF(Free Software Foundation). AFAIK there is no FOSS foundation just FOSS which is Free and Opensource Software, there is a foundation for FOSS but it's called FOSS United.

So be carefull that you don't thank him for the wrong type of software because he won't appreciate it because he is a man of principal.

in my case i put a question to him on the relative morals of use of cloned (stolen) Windows 10, Ghana vs Slackware linux . i got a very courteous reply where he pointed out the flaws of Slackware and the presence of none "free software". Also he pointed out that on the slackware.com site they call it "slackware" not GNU/Linux Slackware.

PS i'm in Accra
