Found XnView MP but its a 2.5+-gig download.
What are you all using?

What? XnView is nowhere near that large. I use it all the time. It's measured in megabytes.

LOL Am i looking at this wrong?

I have no idea what the heck you've done to get there.

Just download the .deb file and install it with GDebi.

I'm pretty sure that I previously warned you about screwing with your OS.

Good job! Keep doing it!

Seriously, I have no idea how you got into a position where it was 2.6 GB to install XnView.

XnView was one of my favorite applications on Windows, way back in the day. It was great to see them port it to Linux and to continue to make it free (as in beer).

It's one of the proprietary applications that I point to as being really, really good. It's not opensource and I'm okay with that.

LOL i got xnview downloaded and unzipped But how do i get it to run?

First install gdebi - just to make it easier for you.

Code:
sudo apt install gdebi

Then, download the XnViewMP .deb. Do not extract the .deb.

Right click on it and open it with gdebi. It'll do some looking around and then you can click on the install button and it should install it for you.

I hope you have Timeshift set up !!?

I remember their coming-of-age thread. Dimly remember, but I remember.

I'm pretty sure folks suggested backups (as well as what would happen if they started screwing with things). If they didn't listen, they'll learn the hard way.

We stress backing up because we know that you're gonna start screwing with stuff! We did the same thing and learned important lessons along the way!

Glad it's sorted and didn't need 2.6 GB of space!

As mentioned above, I'm a big fan of the application. It's great for doing quick edits and for batch converting/processing. They also have an XnConvert that just does that.

It's proprietary, but it's also good.

it looks good! Now for the learning curve. :)

Do note that I changed the thread to include 'solved'. If you have new questions and want a broader viewership, you may want to make a new thread.

Though if it's about XnView, I may well have any answers you need. I flippin' love that program. (I might be sipping wine and it could be nearing my bedtime.)

It's not a huge learning curve. Also, you now have a new tool in your toolbox for installing software.

The GDebi application only works with .deb files.

Bonus content:

Wanna see something neat? Open that same .deb file back up with GDebi. Wait a minute for it to finish doing what it does and then look in the upper right. You can uninstall the apps you installed with it that way.

Even if it's a different version of the .deb, you can usually uninstall with it.

Also, you'll have to repeat this process when XnView updates. You don't *have* to, but you probably will do so. There's no update mechanism built in, 'cause they don't do the whole repository thing.
