Hi everybody, i'm new to the linux bussines, currently my Thinkpad e550 is running on dual boot (Windows 10 and Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS) but when using ubuntu, the batery sometimes doesn't charge when the screen is on. It always does the "charger plugged in" sound and says "charging" for a few seconds but then suddenly just stops. When i close the lid it charges without problems but as soon as i open it again it does the normal "conection" sound but stops chargind imediatly again as described before. Also, from time to time, it just works fine and reboot doesnt help by the way... I really need some helpt on this because in all other terms i totaly love ubuntu

Cheers

Note the comment re thinkpads below.

You will probably find TLp in the Software Manager on your Ubuntu

Hi again, thanks for your support!! unfortunately this didn't solve my problem. The Laptop still only charges when the lid is down. Sometimes though, when it was fully recharged with the lid down, it retains the batery at high level when i use it while letting it plugged in. Also the system recognises that a charger is plugged in all the time, it just says "not charging". I tried the TLP program and even though the outpout about wheter the AC was plugged in or not was correct, the laptop kept draining power from the batery in any scenario.

Cheers

If you are running Windows 10, does the problem go away?...or is the problem still there?

In other words does the laptop charge as it should when using Windows 10.

On Windows 10, the battery charges as it should

Personally, I would ditch Ubuntu, and perhaps install Linux Mint 20.2.

I would definitely do this if you have exhausted the Ubuntu solutions. (it is a known problem)

I would definitely install slimbookbattery and learn how to use it. The latest version is packed with battery saving settings and options.

I would check the bios and ubuntu power settings I seem to remember seeing an option for it to charge only when the lid is down.
If rooted a lot through that stuff and couldn't find anything, but i don't really think it would change something, because sometimes, as said above, it does keep charging when it's powered on with the lid open

To configure your power options for charging when the lid is both up and active In Windows
Step 1. Click the Start button
Step 2. In the search box, type "Command Prompt"
Step 3. Right-click Command Prompt
Step 4. Click Run as administrator
Step 5. At the command prompt, type powercfg /restoredefaultschemes and press Enter
Step 6. Reboot back into Ubuntu - did the behavior change?
Also some BIOSes have a setting called Flexi-Charger make sure it is Enabled

Hi!
I'm having the same problem. Did you find a solution after all?
