I think I made a mistake installing linux. I'm using an HP Omen gt12-0164 and windows 10. I made three partitions, home, root, and boot. Was i supposed to make boot a linux-swap partition instead?

It depends upon the Distro your using and if the machine is UEFI boot or Legacy.
If UEFI you need a small boot partition. IF Not you may or may not need the swap partition.
Give us some more info. Starting with which linux you are using.
