Hello, I really need advice. I'm still on journey learning Linux, transition from Windows. atm I use Linux Mint xfce 20.04 (Uma).

I have my main HDD atm where Linux is installed
there's two partition in it :
"/" root (ext4) I think this one including /usr/home
"/media/users/PartitionA" (ntfs)

Secondary HDD
"/:C" ntfs
"/:D" ntfs

I'm kinda confuse which type of partition should I use for our private data (the Linux way)? I want format both hdd.

ive been watching alot linux youtube video lately, and when I try to set chmod 770 to a file or directory on ntfs partition it just doesnt work, I just assume this is bcz ntfs partition right?

Thank you very much. :)

Welcome to the forums
Are you duel booting with windows? [linux can read Windoze file systems, but windoze cannot read Linux file systems the only cross platform file systems are FAT and NTFS]
So if your Linux only there are several file systems in use [google linux file systems] the most common/popular is EXT4 as this can cope with large harddrives/SSD's and is efficient.
for greater security you should encrypt your home folders [usually done during installation, but if you didnt you still can by following the instructions below]

Thanks sirs~

No, I'm not dual boot with any OS. my main HDD only Linux Mint 20.04 xfce (Uma).

my main goal is want to format all the NTFS partition atm to ext4, but I couldnt find which type for my personal data. because there's alot sub name like: "/", "/swap", "/home", "/etc/"

My main hdd atm:
"/" root (linux installation)
"/media/myname/mypartition" <- this partition I really want to format to ext4 for personal data.

the other hdd I want to format aswell to ext4 for personal data.
I want fully commit, hopes you understand my problems.

Your Linux /root partition needs to be ext4 or one of the other linux based file systems. But if your sharing you data partition with Windows it will have to be either fat or ntfs. As Brickwizard said windows will not read linux file systems.

Let me know if I have understood properly.
