Hi there.

I have a number of apps, Audacity, Music, VLC etc that all work fine when accessing files on the system drive but I have a number of other internal and external drives and they are not available, I can't direct Audacity's file open dialog to any other drives, for instance. In Elementary OS Odin's System settings there is an applications pane and within that there is a sub pane that lists some of the apps and a way to grant them access to other drives. Some apps I have installed appear here but some bundled apps like Music don't. I've been trying menu editor but I can't get any further, if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

Thanks.

I take it you can see the drive , have you tried right click and open with, then choose the app you want to open the contents with

I can see all the drives, when doing as you suggest, with Audacity it tells me it isn't possible and Music requires a restart before it will work again.

Someone here knows something I can tell. What about you? Yes, you. At the back. C'mon, speak up.

Since Elementary OS is based on Ubuntu

Did you install Audacity via Snap? - if so - try enabling Read/write files on removable storage devices

So if the application does not have auto-connect of removable-media we need to connect it manually with:

snap connect audacity:removable-media

Brilliant! It was the removable media. Thanks for that, I was beginning to suspect it was some sort of Snap Sandbox type trap.
I notice now that in the open file dialogs of various apps I am offered only one of my external drives, the same one always, but I can right click on a file on any drive and it will open. Is that fixable?

Now they are showing up so no problem, thanks once again.

snap connect audacity:removable-media

That needs to be in more articles somewhere, 'cause so few people realize that you may need to set Snap permissions.
