I am quite new to Linux so I have been installing and uninstalling multiple distros to find something I like. So far I have tried Ubuntu, Kali, Garuda Sway & KDE Dragonized, Arch, Pop OS (current), and I am quite happy with Pop OS because of its appearance and low resource usage. All these distros had one thing in common, my input microphone wasn't working in any of them which is also why I have to switch to windows to attend zoom meetings but I don't like doing that. I tried everything I could find on the internet, answers on SO&E (Stack Overflow & Exchange), some other forums where people encountered the same problem, but it pretty much boiled down to me copy pasting text onto designated files mentioned by the poster without actually sometimes understanding what I was doing, and that's to be expected. I left searching for it a few months ago, but I still haven't found a fix and I really don't want to switch to windows every time for a meeting and then switch back again (because I am lazy to do a double switch)

I can provide any info which might be required to help me.

In addition I think this might help, I am seeing the option for 'microphone' in pavucontrol which has (plugged) beside it and it's responsive when I unplug the headset (by changing from (plugged) to (unplugged)). It's just not picking any sound. It seems to pick some sound, not sure where from. It gets a mini-bump constantly which indicates it is picking up some outside noise but me speaking does not affect the bump.

The PC model is: HP Pavilion 15-dk0046TX

Moving this to Linux Audio/Video.

Good luck

I don't have any help. I do have a question.

Is this a stand-alone microphone, or is it a headset with a microphone?

when using linux have you tried going to the sound settings and
1]making sure its not muted
2] the gain is turned up

I am sure I am not muted, here are the images I attached. I am not sure about the gain part though, could you brief on how I could check that?

It's a headset microphone. The exact model is: Cosmic Byte GS410

It's a headset microphone.

Your last image is 'pavucontrol' - what's it say in the configuration tab?

Also, is this the weird single plug or is it a dual plug where one plug goes to the headphones and the other goes to the microphone? The weirder single-plugs are sometimes a pain in the butt to get going - fro my observations. I've never actually tried.

It's a single-plug headset, as for the configurations tab, here
