Hi! I was trying to install gdesklets on Ubuntu (the distribution is Focal) and I can't install gdesklets, it gives the error that the package isn't found.

I searched gdesklets up on https://packages.ubuntu.com/ and it isn't showing up for any Ubuntu distribution - maybe that's why?

Incase there are any alternatives to gdesklets I have to use: I just wanted to use it to embed websites (like for example google docs or project euler) on desktop.

Thanks!

It took some digging, but the last version of gDesklets was in 2011.

So, no... No, it's not in current releases.

No, I wouldn't even begin to try compiling and installing it. It's more than a decade since the last update.

If you want things of that nature, look at the Cinnamon desktop as one easy desktop to add 'desklets' and 'applets'. Linux Mint Cinnamon is an acceptable choice. You can also install the Cinnamon DE on Ubuntu, as memory serves.

Yeah...

Code:
sudo apt install cinnamon-desktop-environment

You'd then select Cinnamon from the login screen.

Ubuntu does make a Cinnamon version - https://ubuntucinnamon.org/

I'm pretty sure they do not. That's not Ubuntu, at least not officially. Not yet, at any rate.

That should be all the official flavors. If you click through to the larger list (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuFlavors) you'll see that a bunch of flavors no longer exist, and Cinnamon is not among those either.

So, as near as I can tell, it has never been made by Ubuntu.

As far as I know, there was some scuttlebutt about them becoming an official flavor, but I don't think anything official has been decided or anything like that.

should be perhaps one day it will be

Yeah, I figure they will eventually be official. As mentioned, there's been some scuttlebutt but nothing official - at least nothing said in the public channels that I have access to. I can't really discuss what goes on in private - but I can point out that nobody would be consulting me or mentioning it to me!

Then again, this assumes the project wants to become an official flavor. I'd expect that to be something they wanted, but I have no information regarding that.
