The original poster (OP) can now mark replies as 'best answer'. Every couple weeks, we'll reward those that have the most posts marked as best answer by sending you $50.00! It won't always be the person with the most best answers, but those that stand out to us by going above and beyond in helping others on the site.

If you have questions about the best answer function, please reply in this thread!

If you visit someone's profile page, you can now see a 'best answers' tab. That will show you the posts they made that were marked as the best answer in the threads.

So get helpin!

Changed this up a bit... it used to be that the community would vote for best answer - but on our forum, I think it works out better if the OP votes once for the best answer since they're the ones with the issue.

Deleted the old thread where I went into detail about how the community votes and started this new one. :)

So where can we see who has the most "Best Answer"s? Is their a totals page?

Thanks Rob!

There actually is not a totals page, but I can check in the database or be able to notice who has been helping a lot by traveling around the forum :)

Oh. Well I thought having that page would be kool. Not really needed though.

Having the total page might would help with making it feel competitive. You would be able to see where you stand in comparison to others, but yeah, not really needed. :)

Remember though, this is not about numbers or competitiveness. This is about helping people....I just thought it would be kool.

Yeah, I get that the goal is to help people. Just also enjoy making a game out of things sometimes :p. If that game ends up with more high quality help for people, then well that is all the better.

I will be helping people out when I can regardless. I just enjoy solving problems really.

I'd like also to get money being helped.....:p

If the OP got a dollar for marking "Best Answer", then every Linux system in the world would mysteriously brake due to issues that are easily solvable on forums.

Rob ,even it doesn't cost much , all geeks love to have credit in the form of poster/label from Linux.org. Similar like. May be you can have a better design.

I like your idea.

This is very true. I find myself wanting to get these silly "Trophy Points" already.

I think having more little achievements might actually help out in that way. Then people like me find it like a game. I need to post more so I can get other achievements and get more points. Of course I don't want to just spam comments though because I also want to keep a high "like" ratio on my posts/likes.

As of November 5, 2013,

Machin Shin - Posts to Likes = 1.6:1

That is an excellent ratio. Keep it up.:) You should make a post here (http://www.linux.org/forums/site-announcements.4/) to inspire others to do the same. If all users followed your principle, this site would have higher quality.

This thread is almost 10 years old (9 years and 8 months).
Never seen an option where replies can be marked as 'best answer'.
Me either:-
