MX-16

For those of you coming from Windows or people that don't want to deal with using the terminal, MX-16 is for you. MX-16 is based off of Debian stable branch but has all codecs and current software. On the first boot up everything works without lame excuses unlike some other Linux distros for example like (Manjaro). No need to use the terminal and a friendly forum. https://mxlinux.org/

Oh, okay. I'm from a different generation, I guess. There are almost 300 active Linux distributions, and I've tried many of them, and many that are now extinct. Each has its strengths and weaknesses... all are better than Windows (to me).

I also know that the command line can be the easiest method to do things sometimes. For all the typing, and finding the article with photo examples, and directions for the GUI solution (to solve the hibernation problem in the other thread)... I also found one single command that, if copied/pasted into a terminal, would have removed the hyberfil.sys that Windows left behind. I wish I knew more command line stuff, but I'm not done learning yet.

While I don't like what Microsoft did with Windows and I use only MX-16 on my desktop and laptop I disagree that all Linux distros are better than Windows because some Linux distros are pure garbage or antiquated to use or are unstable or are stuck in ancient times. The command line is an ancient antiquated slow way to operate a computer. The time it takes you to search or ask what commands to type in the terminal I am long done using the G.U.I. When any O.S. requires you to use the terminal in the year 2017 it's because it is poorly written or incomplete.

Well, I am happy to agree to disagree with you. Although I don't care at all for Microsoft, they are not spending time and money to integrate the Bash shell into Windows 10 because its an antique novelty... its because it is robust, and powerful, and popular. :D

Cheers!

Canonical and Microsoft got together to get Bash/ from Ubuntu to work in Windows. I don't trust either one of them.

Its MX-17 now. I like it. Light. Stable. Easy. So its one that I put on relatives and friends older laptops is their main priority is stability and simplicity and they like a win7-ish desktop. If they want more features and a bigger forum community, I start em on Linux Mint cinnamon. They usually muck something up though eventually and I have to phone consult. I'm playing with Manjaro (Arch based) now and REALLY REALLY like it. Prefer it to MX. Much more up to date. BTW no distro is perfect. Not everyone has a hassle free experience even with MX. It depends..I've got Manjaro on three desktops w/o incident other than setting dual boots stuff

I've given a test drive to at least twenty different distros over the last year or so. As an XP Pro user, I can say that most were awful...and by awful I mean not intuitive, not easy to learn, and generally a slow grind on the nerves to use. The only ones I'd call usable are MX Linux, RoboLinux, Kodachi Linux, and TAILS. Linux Mint was borderline. Maybe if I had not tried the others first, I'd have a better opinion of it.

I guess the CLI junk would be okay for a speed typist, or them skilled in DOS, a programmer/coder, or Linux guru....for a windows user, it bites; for one with dyslexia and ADD, it bites harder!
