Hi @astrale, and welcome! I'm not that good at parsing through so much Boot Repair info, but let's start with what it is telling you at the very end, which I quoted above. Did you reboot and go into BIOS settings... and make sure that mmcblk0 is listed as your first boot device? An alternative that might work would be to interrupt the boot up process to get the BIOS Boot Menu, and to select that device there. It may call it a hard drive, or an SSD drive, or a flash memory, or something else.

If you can get it to boot as described above and get you back into your Mint system, then you might try to run this from terminal:
Code:
sudo update-grub

If still not working, tell us more about your system:

1. Confirm that you are currently booting Mint on a DVD (that's what it looks like in Boot Repair output)

2. Give us make/model of your computer. It seems (to me) to be a netbook/laptop with a 32GB eMMC storage instead of a hard drive. But I may be misreading the info. Confirm that only Linux Mint was installed, and not a dual-boot with Windows.

3. Can you describe what happened to bring about this disaster? We you doing any updates? Change any settings?

4. Would reinstalling Mint be another disaster (due to losing data)? Sometimes reinstalling is the quickest and easiest fix if all your important things are backed up.

Thanks a lot for your reply!
Did you reboot and go into BIOS settings... and make sure that mmcblk0 is listed as your first boot device?
I really dont know how to do that since there is no such device as mmcblk0 in my bios...

1
I was booting mint on a bootable usb to launch boot-repair
2
Lenovo ideapad 100S-141BR
Model name : 80R9
32GB
dont know about eMMC storage, how can i get this information?
3
Linux Mint was installed and i tried to reinstall it (i also tried reinstalling ubuntu and faced exactly the same problem)
I figured since i needed to reinstall it i could get rid of some file system ( im stupid i know...), i got rid of a lot of python librairies and maybe other stuff i cant quite recall(i desesperatly needed some more space for 5 minutes)
4
i tried a couple time to reinstall mint and ubuntu and nothing has helped

since grub does not appear here, it is said grub is not installed (on some forum)

Your storage device is definitely an embedded storage device based on the model number you posted in post #3.

https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/IdeaPad_100S_14?M=80R900FYUS

Look under storage and you will see this. 32GB eMMC

Here is a link to your manual.

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1055568/Lenovo-Ideapad-100s-14ibr.html
Download and look at page 22 and page 23 it explains the boot settings.

Page 22

BIOS setup utility
What is the BIOS setup utility?
The BIOS setup utility is a ROM-based software. It displays basic computer information and
provides options for setting boot devices, security, hardware mode, and other preferences.
How can I start the BIOS setup utility?
To start the BIOS setup utility:
1
Shut down the computer.
2
Press the Novo button and then select BIOS Setup.
How can I change the boot mode?
There are two boot modes: UEFI and Legacy Support. To change the boot mode, start the BIOS
setup utility and set boot mode to UEFI or Legacy Support on the boot menu

Page 23
When do I need to change the boot mode?
The default boot mode for your computer is UEFI mode. If you need to install a legacy operating
system, such as Windows, Linux or Dos, etc. (that is, any operating system before Windows 8) on
your computer, you must change the boot mode to Legacy Support. The legacy operating system,
such as Windows, Linux or Dos, etc. cannot be installed if you don't change the boot mode.

These links explain the difference in storage devices.

https://laptoping.com/laptop-pc-storage-explained-hdd-ssd-hybrid-emmc.html

http://www.differencebetween.info/difference-between-emmc-and-ssd

If you can't repair grub than you may have to reinstall Linux Mint and if that is the case than make certain to change boot mode to Legacy Support as stated in the manual.

Yes, that is 32GB eMMC storage. Luckily Linux takes less storage space than Windows so it can leave more room for your other apps. But it is still so small that you should always remember to be aware of it and do good housekeeping to prevent it from filling up. And it is not the type of storage that you can upgrade to something larger. However, you can get a larger USB flash drive or external hard drive and boot and run from that instead.

Reinstalling Mint should work no matter whether the BIOS is set for UEFI or Legacy. But you may need care to tell it where to install the bootloader... which is different for UEFI versus Legacy. If you just try to let the Mint installer do everything automatically (instead of manual install) it may install properly. Be sure to tell it to "use entire drive" and it will erase all previous partitions.

Here is a link that offers a couple of solutions for installing Ubuntu, near the bottom of the page. The article is a couple of years old, so it may or may not be relevant today. But if it is still an issue, Mint may quite possibly behave like Ubuntu since it is based on it. The basic thing to remember is that you've installed Mint on this computer before, and you can do it again. Nothing is truly broken.

Those eMMC drives are funny little creatures!:D

Cheers

Thanks a lot for all this help!! This is very nice !
1.
Unfortunatly i havent been able to save my computer just yet:
so, i already had tried twice to reinstall linux (mint, then ubuntu)

I tried again with all settings of my boot in legacy support mode ( and security options disabled) but no luck...
, thats still one good point : i have no trouble at all booting an usb live linux!

2.
my attempt to reinstalling grub sold by failure when i try to mount or unmount my partitions (partitions is already mounted or mount point busy) #the partition is not already mounted
3.
i tried to boot on my installed mint nonetheless using super grub but i end up in recovery mode in the very beginning

4.
when i boot i arrive on a boot menu wich is very strange and definitly not grub, here's some picture:
EDIT 5.
Im currently re re re re ... installing mint with all legacy options of my bios disctivated and grub seems to be back! (i forgot how terribly handsome it was), i'll edit this post to let you know if my laptop comeback from the dead! )

Thanks again for all this help, it is very appreciated :)

Good luck @astrale! We're rooting for you! :D

"Rooting?" :eek::D
That's gotta be a Linux pun (or Android)... but we'll laugh about it later when your system is up and running!

Cheers

It is alive my friend!
thank you all so much for your support you've been very nice and helpfull
(rooting, you're hilarious XD)
Is it helpfull if i post a precise walkthrough of how i got out of my mess, if so, where do i post it? :)
Thank you again all so much!

Happy to hear you've got it going now. :D:D:D

By all means, give us an analysis of what was needed to make this install work for you... just post it below. You certainly may be of great help to others who might find your solutions here.

Cheers

Do you know what the trick was? Do you think it might have been "TPM" (Trusted Platform Module)? For me, that is a newer technology, and I'm not very familiar with it. Folks might need to be especially aware of that setting. Thanks!

Cheers

Im not fairly certain, i cant quite remember but i think turning off secure boot was the first thing i tried, in this case the trick WAS TPM !

But on a high number of blog it is adiviced to turn off secure boot (its a classic problem but sine i never encountered it before, this may have suprised me)
so it is possible i didnt turn off secure boot at first, in which case it was the trick!

Yes, on Dell Systems

Intel platform trust tech: disabled

... it is also called PTT (Platform Trust Technology), and it has to be disabled in order to enable Legacy ROM Boot support.

The famous "They" don't make it any easier for us Linux users, do they?

I reckon the only thing better than having your problem solved with the help of others is solving it yourself :D

Nice work @astrale and thanks for sharing with us.

Cheers
