Hello! I have a laptop, Asus x541u, and i always wanted to install linux on it, but i couldn't.
1 year ago i installed Kali Linux no problem. (dualboot with Windows)
I've deleted te partition because the hdd waa damanged, and i had to rearrange the sectors so it would ve faster while using windows.

After a few months, i tried to install kali again. Failed, with the error being 'install step failed:install the system'.
I redid it, failed.
I verified the iso and usb, no problem.
I was getting huuuge spam of errors at boot time about AER and PCi, with severity code:corrected.
I have tried some args (pci=noaer, pci=nomsi) but the install step failed again.
I was getting errors when the install worked, and because it was working i ignored them.
I checked everything, i got 32 bit, light, i tweaked everything in the BIOS, installed a firmware update, checked partitions to see if it was using the usb, i tried using a DVD instead of usb mass storage, i tried more distros, like ubuntu(3 versions) backbox(1 version) but it did not work.
'' it must be the HDD"
So i got a new ssd and decides to do a test, using the whole disk for linux. Did NOT work. Windows works like a charm, no crashing, etc.

I also don't use secure boot.

It was working back then.
I need desperate help. I had to scrap some projects because i could't get it to work.
I also use vms with linux, and they are preety fast, but i need the real install.
Also, in text mode, i get some errors, about fclose:no space left on device.
[impossible].

I've inclided a video of the errors and one image with the boot errors, if it helps.
: Boot errors
Text install errors afer 80%+ done.

I am desperate.
Thanks in advance.

What other distros have you tried? Kali is not for everyday use. Have you tried something simpler like Linux Mint?

Thanks for the response.

What are you using to burn your ISO's? DO you burn them to USB or DVD/CD? What tends to be a foolproof workaround for me is to burn to USB using Rufus. If you have a Windows computer or VM try using Rufus. Try burning using the GPT method. If that fails try the MBR method. Hope it helps

I tried everything, and as i mentioned, i am doing dualboot.
I did the dvd with poweriso and the usb with rufus in both modes.
Thanks for the reply.

I noticed at the end of your video that there was a "not enough space on device" message. Are you trying to dual boot? if so how much free space does the installed partition have? If you are trying to install the the distro on it's own have you partitioned enough space for the distro you are trying to install?

I tried to to a clean install(only kali) when i got the ssd(240gb) still the same error.
For this run i allocated 40. (the first time it worked an year ago i was using 30)

@antinfinait Am i right to think that this may be a hardware issue? I have never had such a problem with all my distros. How old is your hard drive?

Pm
My bad i dont know hot i missed that. Lets hope someone might come up with a solution. You seem to have done ok so far with standard troubleshooting. Best of luck.
Thanks for the interest. Have a nice day.

I would probably try downloading gparted. https://gparted.org/download.php
Create a whole new partition table on the hard drive. (I recommend gpt).
Don't create any partitions, don't format it. After that, try installing your distro.
