If anyone could help me fix this it would be really helpful

Ubuntu?

Code:
sudo snap install core18

Which version of Debian, William, 9 or 10?

G'day and welcome to linux.org :)

Can you give us the output from

Code:
systemctl status snap-core-7917.mount
?

Thanks

I am on debian 9

This is the result from the command:

4602

Ta for that, Mate.

I have to leave for my Australian evening now but I will look in tomorrow, hopefully someone more fluent with snap than I will be along.

No luck, you're stuck with me :)?

I am just making the acquaintance of snap packages, started a few minutes ago.

I have Debian 9.8 MATE in my stable, so similar perhaps to yours.

The desired outcome to the command above would have looked something like this

Code:
chris@debian9dot8-MATE-SSD:~$ systemctl status snap-core-7917.mount
● snap-core-7917.mount - Mount unit for core
Loaded: loaded (/proc/self/mountinfo; enabled; vendor preset: enabled)
Active: active (mounted) since Tue 2019-11-05 15:26:46 AEST; 3min 35s ago
    Where: /snap/core/7917
     What: /dev/loop0
    Tasks: 0 (limit: 4915)
   CGroup: /system.slice/snap-core-7917.mount

Dates, times and timezone differing obviously.

I am speculating that your install of snapd has been faulty.

Can you run

Code:
apt-cache policy snapd

and get back to us? Result should be v2.21

Cheers

Hello, he's learned how to change his hostname ... :), the laddie could get dangerous.

It's good that you've got a grip on Posting screenshots, that's handy.

But when you post text output from eg Terminal, then it's better to use a button on your Reply Pane toolbar right of the Emoji, with three dots and a down arrow (tip Insert), choose Code and paste the text to there, as I did above.

Then we can bounce anything back at you and say eg "It should say this..."

Back to business.

Version is right, so I can't straight away account for the error.

I'm in Manjaro right now, so I'll just get out of that and back into Debian Stretch and be back (grabbing a beer on the way, lol)

Wiz

UPDATE - getting my girl a cuppa tea, then back, I'm in Debian now.

Hint: You are currently not seeing messages from other users and the system.
Users in the 'systemd-journal' group can see all messages. Pass -q to
      turn off this notice.
No journal files were opened due to insufficient permissions.

You must run this command as root.

Code:
sudo journalctl -u snapcore-7917.mount

Great, you've got the code tags, now :)

You can repeat that command prefaced with sudo, for Julien.

If it comes up with, eg

Code:
-- No entries --

then I would advocate uninstalling snapd and all dependencies and then try reinstalling it.

In between the two processes, I would advocate installing Timeshift and taking a snapshot of your system, so that you can roll back if needed. I can run you through that.

The people at the Debian Forums have a saying

"Don't make your Debian a FrankenDeb".

Quick question, how did you install snapd?

eg at Terminal

Synaptic Package Manager

... other?

Mate what do you get when you enter at Terminal

Code:
snap find

??

If you get a list of 10 or so including GIMP, Kdenlive, Sublime Text &c, you are looking good.

If that is so, then

Code:
sudo snap install hello-world

& watch closely, snap core will be installed as a part of it.

Wizard out for the evening, Cheers all
