Hi,

I am new to linux but wanted to give it a try by installing it on virtual box. I have downloaded three different versions but can't get it to work. I almost got Linux budgie to work but once installed it was buggy and wouldn't let me use it in full screen mode. Ubuntu wouldn't install at all and that is also the case with Linux Deepin that I am trying now. I have tried all kinds of different settings in virtual box, but no luck so far.

I would be very grateful for any help with any ideas of what could be the problem. I am using a lenovo laptop and enabled virtualization in bios.

Thank you,

Daniel

Hi @Kreutz and welcome to the forum. Did you install Vbox guest additions? Are you installing the distros with the defaults? What have you done and how? Boot the distro and follow install instructions leaving the defaults in everything? Did you change anything? Did you follow any guide? Deepin as far as I remember doesn't work well in virtualbox. It's mostly meant to be installed on bare metal; real hardware. Although, you might try this

Hi, and thank you for your response.

Actually I am unsure about the guest additions. I just installed virtual box with all default settings. As far as the distros, I installed everything as default except I disabled the automated updates. This only applies to Linux Budgie however since I never even got that far with the two other distros. I wasn't aware that Deepin didn't work well with virtual box.

Thank you

Well, you must install them. It provides/installs tools and drivers for the guest OS in the VM, that's probably the reason you couldn't use Budgie (did you mean Solus?) in full screen mode.
I forgot to ask but you haven't mentioned nor your OS; Windows? OSX? Neither the VBox version you're using which I guess should be something like 6.x.x. To install guest additions go here https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/, find the matching VBox number/version directory, open it and download the guest additions for your OS. Install them and try again. Before going fully Linux and ditch windows for good, I tried several distros in Vbox and as far as I can remember all of them installed without problem. Maybe you're setting something the wrong way, could you take a screenshot of the VBox's configuration panel and post it here? Also, it might help us in helping you knowing you system specs; RAM, CPU, HDD/SDD, in short, your hardware information.
