Can I cause a running application icon to display its full text, on Gnome desktop?
In Xfce, this is called "show button labels".
I will screenshot what I mean, this is the panel on KDE.

G'day Shmu - :) which Distro are you running GNOME with?

Have you tried GNOME Tweaks or Dconf Editor?

I haven't decided yet whether I want Manjaro or Ubuntu. I looked in GNOME Tweaks on Manjaro and didn't see what I was looking for. The option might appear if I would install Dock-to-Dash or something like that. I am hoping that a Gnome user might know from experience how to do it.

I understand.

I have both Distros in my stable, plus a couple more GNOMEs, so I'll take a look.

However if someone else comes along sooner (I am in Australia) by all means take their input.

Friday here in OZ, so

G'day Shmu :)

Still having a look around, and I'll get back here when I can.

In the meantime, take a look at this, and see if it holds any uses to you

I found it with a Google search on

gnome show button labels

Let me know.

Looks like you nailed it. Thanks!
Since I am a chronic distro-hopper, I am currently in the world of Xfce, but this might bring me back to Gnome!

Glad it helped, mate :p

Nothing wrong with being a distro hopper, you're talking with a bloke who runs 60 - 90 distros at a time, some the same with different desktop environments.

I think nearly all the DEs I have tried have merit in some form or another, it just depends what bangs your drum.

Cheers

Chris

This can be achieved also by the extension "Window List", which is included in the package
Code:
sudo apt install gnome-shell-extensions
It should be set to ""Never group windows".

I'll make a note of that, thanks for sharing :)
