    Help Install another distro

Hi @wizardfromoz , I've been busy dealing with a move and dealing with a crash on my old box running suse 15.2. I'm looking forward to trying to fix that box. I'm also reading more about UEFI and trying to understand WHY I should convert. I'm not convinced right now on major advantages to...

    Help Install another distro

Hi @wizardfromoz , After a little research about my long boot time (even after removing the debian partition) this fixed it: [garyj@linux-mint] % sudo update-initramfs -ukall Cheers, Gary

    Help Install another distro

Thanks @captain-sensible I'll give that one a try! Let's see if it behaves better. For a test I plugged in an older USB wifi that is way slower and it was recognized right away with debian 11.

    Help Install another distro

Hi @wizardfromoz, You will probably be upset at me but I just couldn't stop myself from installing debian 11 :) I'm quite disappointed that my nice USB wifi adapter is not being recognized and it appears that the drivers required are there since my iso had non-free included. I'm noticing some...

    1) The entry for /dev/sda2 had an opportunity to click swapon, which I did. [garyj@linux-mint] % cat /etc/fstab # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a # device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name...

I forgot to mention I did NOT do any UEFI stuff. That was kind of too scary to create, it made me nervous just reading about the procedure :) --Gary

More progress: I converted the SSD /dev/sda to GPT with no issues. Screen shot attached. I now have 3 partitions for potential distros, of course we are using one of the for Mint 19.3. I was afraid to delete the original /dev/sda5 /boot partition. I think we are not using it anymore since I...

    Help Install another distro

Weekend update: I successfully converted /dev/sdb to GPT with NO issues, screenshot below. I stretched /dev/sdb1 to 2.68TB which is my common /home dir for the other distros when installed, each distro will have a unique username. I added /dev/sdb2 984GB partition which timeshift is now using...

Funny you bring up timeshift location @wizardfromoz ! When I started digging in to where most of my data was in /dev/sda1 sure enough it was timeshift. So I moved it recently to /dev/sdb1 now. As you can see from gparted result on /dev/sda1 we are at "normal" disk usage now for / (about 25G)...
