I would lie to download Debian on my PC but I am worried because I dont know anything about computers or programing I am not sure if I will be able to use Debian properly?

I will be using my computer for school. Is Debian for people who know a lot about computers and programing or is it for people who dont know anything about computers.

Linux Mint is a good newby option as is Linux Lite (which really makes it easier for beginners).

I’ve been using Debian for years, it’s not really any different to mint, Ubuntu, or any of the other Debian derived distros.

The only minor difference is that Debian stable uses slightly older versions of software. But although the versions are slightly older, they still get security updates etc.
And because it uses slightly older versions - Debian stable is rock solid.

The only time you might run into problems is if you use Debian testing, or Debian unstable.
Sometimes they are prone to minor problems/breakages.

But as the others have said the *buntu and mint distros are probably slightly more beginner friendly.

No, definitely not

i think maybe the next step is to select a couple of candidates and try them live via a usb stick

I have Windows officce on my Windows 10. and since I will be switching to Linux I dont want to lose Windows ofiice. How can I transfer windows office to Linux?

You won't be able to transfer Windows Office to Linux.
However you can install ' Wine' on Linux to see if Windows Office will work.

Debian comes with Libre Office which is similar to Microsoft Office.

Greetings Mario, and welcome to the friendliest forum on the internet!
I have been using Linux Mint for a few years and have found it the easiest for me to move from Windows 7 to Linux. {I had no programming experience at all}.
As per Microsoft Office: I use LibreOffice for proofreading for someone who sends their articles to me in MS Word every month. I don't have any trouble using LibreOffice Writer to do my work.
I also do a fair amount of work in LibreOffice Calc; which is the spreadsheet part of LO.
If you don't use MS Publisher, you would have no trouble with LibreOffice.
Hope this is helpful for you.

If you're using Windows 10 then more than likely you already have a Microsoft account.

If you have a Microsoft account than you should be able to login to your Microsoft account and use the free online apps.

hang on ....has anybody seen any specs ? how do you know you don't have enough room to keep Windows and also have Linux.

Specs please:

HD
CPU
etc

OP said that this is his computer for school.....so I agree with you captain-sensible w/o the make and model we don't know if mario123 can shrink his Windows partition or not ; depending on the size of the drive.

Some of the newer netbooks and older laptop's hdd's are fairly small.
