I love linux and I've been using it for a few years, but resonantly while running into a gas station someone just opened my truck door and took my both my windows work laptop and person my linux laptop.

So this weekend I ran up to best buy to get a new personal laptop. First thing I wanted to do when I got home with it was to install linux. However I am not having much luck. I got an HP pavilion x360 which is a small cheaper laptop.

The wifi is not working, there is realtek rtl8821ce wifi card not supported right now in any distro I can find, and for some reason I have not looked into yet the sound isn't working ether. Also this laptop doesn't have a wired internet port. I can use usb tether to my phone...but super slow.

So my question to you all is, does anybody have new HP Pavilion x360 and have you found a distro that fully supports it, without hours of troubleshooting?

It looks like this may help you out: https://github.com/tomaspinho/rtl8821ce

It is for Arch, but there are Debian/Ubuntu (should work for derivatives) build instructions on the page.

Lastly, it [redacted] sucks donkey [redacted] when [redacted][redacted] steal stuff.

The realtek rtl 8821ce wifi card has had a driver with native support for the Linux platform since kernel 5.9 (the latest one). Try using a rolling release distribution such as Arch or its derivatives, if you want an easier setup, such as EndeavourOS, RebornOS or Garuda Linux.

If that one doesn't work you can also try this one: https://github.com/MounirErhili/rtl8821ce

Just imagine that person scored a lethal hit from the money they got from selling the laptops they stole from you. People should keep their hands off of stuff that isn't theirs!

So I went to try Arch, and I have never used this distro before. I wanted to try a live version of the distro before I install. I didn't see where they have a live version for download, and the directions I found online to make a live version required you have linux installed, which I don't.

So any other ideas where I can find a live distro with the 5.9 kernel ??

Have I got a distro for you! Except for the Live USB instance... I don't think it has that...

openSUSE Tumbleweed is a remarkably stable rolling-release, which sounds like an oxymoron but somehow manages to be true.

It's a fantastic distro, in my opinion. I have multiple VMs and it was on bare metal until just the other day when I dedicated that box to Lubuntu testing. I actually put LMDE on it (not the testing distro) but that's a topic for another day.

Give it a shot! You can actually poke around with the Leap version here:

Tumbleweed is pretty much exactly like that, but with near-bleeding-edge software, including the 5.9 kernel.

:)@tbrooks76 G'day and welcome to linux.org

You did not look far enough past Arch.

This from my EndeavourOS

Code:
[chris@EndeavourOS ~]$ uname -r
5.9.8-arch1-1

Also Arcolinux is worth a look, I run 2 of them

From my terminal output

kernel 5.9.8-arch1-1

ie the same as Endeavour

Most Linux distributions are not on kernel 5.9. And personally I forgot what kernel vereions Gentoo and OpenSUSE Tumbleweed currently are on. I knew they were a couple of versions behind Arch but I wasn't too sure.
