Setting up a dual drive for the first time. Help!

Ok- If your going to delete the Ubuntu partition than you should use the partition manager that comes with Zorin to do that during the installation. I would delete the old Ubuntu partitions and than create 3 new partitions for Zorin. Once you delete those partitions you will have free space...

Dual boot Windows 10 / Kali [ASUS UX480F]

Kali Linux is a Debian based distribution so you will most likely have to install the non-free firmware. https://wiki.debian.org/Firmware Looking at that laptop, (provided I found your exact machine, see the link below) it has a Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 GPU. You'll probably have to install the...

Setting up a dual drive for the first time. Help!

Looking at the screenshots I see you have a 1 TB drive /dev/sda and a second drive 232.89 GB /dev/sdb. Are you planning on installing Zorin to /dev/sda? If so than you partitioned it correctly. :) You can use g-parted or the partition mgr that comes with Zorin. As Vrai said the partition mgr...

Setting up a dual drive for the first time. Help!

Yes, the ext4 / journaling file system is the os. Yes you can use g-parted or the partition mgr for simplicity. It's up to you. IMO it's just easier to use the partition mgr that comes with Zorin during the installation. IF you haven't already disable the secure boot in the BIOS. When I...

    Laptop recommendation

Hi & Welcome to Linux.org.-:) Are you on a budget? Maybe have a look at what Micro Center and Tiger Direct has. https://www.microcenter.com/category/4294967288/laptops-notebooks http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_tlc.asp?CatId=17&srkey=laptops Also, maybe do a search...

Setting up a dual drive for the first time. Help!

IMO 6 or 8 gig's is overkill for the swap. I've been running Linux for 8 years and I have always made a 1 or 2 GB swap partition and never had a problem. Good luck on your fresh installation of Zorin. :)

Setting up a dual drive for the first time. Help!

Before you install Zorin to your Lenovo thinkpad make sure you know if it's 32-bit or 64-bit machine. I last checked on Zorin a few years ago and if my memory serves me correctly Zorin runs on an 18 month cycle. So unless the Zorin Team changed that you will have to perform a fresh installation...

Dual Booting causing failure to boot into either OS

This is just a suggestion. You don't have to do this if you don't want to. If you install Lubuntu alongside of Windows you would have a Grub Menu that would allow you to choose which os you want to boot into. You could tell the installer that comes with Lubuntu to install alongside of Windows...

    FAILED INSTALLATION

A quick search returned that the message indicates that the OS is booting into a video mode (either too big or too small) that is unacceptable to the monitor. When you press Enter what are your options? Is your laptop a Lenovo? HP? Sony? Make and model will help us so we can look up the specs...

I see that you have 180.32 of disk space unallocated and you didn't create any swap partitions. Do you have any plans for the unallocated space? Here's an article about swap. You may find it helpful. https://www.lifewire.com/do-you-need-swap-partition-2202049 When I installed Linux Mint 19.2...

Brand New Desktop Build: Intel AC 9260 and Slackware

That's great news. I like chromium but grew tired of having to keep installing the new one so I stick with FF. Slackware is running very well on this new rig. Minus one hiccup. I have to keep fixing the clock after coming from being booted into Mint. Any idea why the clock is wrong?

Please Help - Printer not working

Go to the Software Center and type cups in the search. The Software Center should show if it is installed or not. IF the Software Center isn't showing if CUPS is installed or not open the terminal and run this: dpkg -L cups What does it return? Until you satisfy that dependency your printer...

How To Get Grub Back With My Fresh Slackware Installation

Using the BIOS Boot Menu works if I want to boot into MX Linux or Linux Mint so I'm glad about that. If I don't want Grub than I just don't hold down F8 and the machine boots right into Slackware. I'm not sure why the partition isn't showing up as bootable. I made the ext4 partition bootable...
