    Distro for laptop

@Condobloke I'll second that choice of Linux Mint!!! I have tried about 12-14 different Linux distros and have found that LM is the absolute easiest transition from Windows to Linux - hands down. Perhaps those very familiar with Linux may have forgotten the transition period they went through...

I'm Back. Just like a bad penny. Mother changed her mind and we ate at home. I have another question Harald, before you hit the sack --- What are your plans for your old laptop with Win 7 on it? OG TC

Harald, For now, please don't do anything until you have given us all the specs on your old computer. I have a desktop with win 7 on it, so it should not take too long to get Linux installed. OG TC

Harald, That's great! Give us all the specifications on that old laptop please. Give as much info as possible. I think it will be simpler to change over to Linux from Win 7 than it is from Win 10. With that said; after you get your feet wet doing the old one, perhaps you can then be more...

I was a flight instructor for about 11 years. During that time I found out that the old saying is true - "When you teach someone, you come to realise that you are learning more about your subject than you are teaching your student!" One other thing is - "You find out just how much you understand...

@hacodo75 Harald, One more question - do you have an old computer that you could experiment with? Any old computer would work. OG TC

@captain-sensible Ah yes, Old baldy, Kojak. That was a good detective show. Telly Savalas was excellent in that show. Perhaps they will bring it back again sometime. OG TC :) Have you noticed that all the emojis have bald heads? LOL.

Harald, please bear with me if I seem too elementary. I am going to start from scratch. What I did, was to use a 16 gb flash drive {some call them thumb drives}. I went to DistroWatch; located 'Mint' in the right hand column; clicked on that. Then scroll down to this: Next I clicked on the...

Good morning @Harald, May we start over with your first post concerning a 'new HP laptop with Windows 10' and you would like to put Linux Mint or Ubuntu on it? I do have some experience with Linux Mint. Unfortunately, Slackware is too advanced for me at this time. @captain-sensible I bought an...

Greetings @wildcat374 , I am also running Linux Mint 19.3; and I have wine running on my LM. Here's a screenshot of the two apps I installed. All I know is that it works with both of them installed. Old Geezer TC

@hacodo75 Let me explain what happens when you press the 'prt sc' key. It works just like copy and paste. The picture of the screenshot goes to the clipboard, and waits there until you paste it somewhere. Clear as mud, no? OG TC

H This is just to show you how easy it is to do screenshots in Linux Mint 19.3. I did this a minute ago, and here it is now: That is how easy it is to do in LM 19.3 In case you just want part of the screen, you can do this: That's really how easy it is with the screenshot tool in LM 91.3...

    help choose linux distro

@IPA Welcome Empleat, I would agree with everything that IPA has mentioned. If you use Linux Mint 19.3 'live' iso, and boot from it, you can look at it, try everything on it, play with it: all without disturbing your Windows OS. That's the beauty of using a 'live' distro. Then if you are...

Looks like you are gaining on it. I will guarantee that once you have Linux up and running, taking screenshots is a whole lot easier. OG TC Harald, Did that screenshot come from following the steps I gave you in #94? OG TC

Harald, Nothing wrong with your brain! After all, you are giving Linux a try. After you take your 'prt-Sc' pic, you will not find it anywhere visible - UNTIL - you open a word processor: MS Word, Libre Office Writer or some such thing. Once you have that open, press the 'Ctrl + V' keys to paste...
