    Grsync Issue

    # # # /etc/fstab # Created by anaconda on Sun Jul 17 16:37:47 2022 # # Accessible filesystems, by reference, are maintained under '/dev/disk/'. # See man pages fstab(5), findfs(8), mount(8) and/or blkid(8) for more info. # # After editing this file, run 'systemctl daemon-reload' to update...

    Grsync Issue

The chown command ran and appeared to do it's job. However, I still cannot create a new file there. A message says that the file system is read only. With Nemo, I can check any file or directory and the properties say that I am the owner (same as before) and that I have read-write privileges...

No I can't. See my followup above.

    Grsync Issue

If I understand "touch" correctly, I can put the cursor on openable files like .jpg and select them and open them. Followup: I just did a grsync backup to a different external drive and it worked perfectly (at least it said it did. I haven't try a recovery). I guess my "bigstick" external drive...

    Grsync Issue

I couldn't figure out how to insert the -O switch into the graphical grsync interface. So, I did it from the command line. Same or similar result. Many failures and most, if not all, had a statement regarding being a read only file system. I have checked permissions on several and none appear to...

    Grsync Issue

Thanks. I may do this. For now, I would like to find out what is going on with grsync. I read a little about foxclone and it reommends not using it for primary backup. I don't know why. Not sure if the same was said about redobackup.

    Grsync Issue

I'm trying to do a backup prior to upgrading to Fedora 38. I have used Grsync before with no issue, but now all I get is an errors list. I am attempting to backup to an external drive named Bigstick. The first error in the list reads: rsync: [generator] failed to set times on...

    Firmware Update Recommendations

Thank you. Even the article recommends not doing anything unless needed for some reaon: "If something goes wrong during the BIOS update, your PC or laptop could be rendered useless. If there’s a power cut, or the computer gets turned off while updating, it could mean that it’s unable to boot at...

    Firmware Update Recommendations

Vantage is not now loaded and I'm not inclined to do so unless needed. I generally subscribe to the ...don't fix it attitude, but thought I would get other opinions. Thanks

    Firmware Update Recommendations

I have an older Thinkpad (2016 I think) that works beautifully. I've had it for about 5 years and during that time it has never had a firmware update. Is it recommended that these updates be done? If so, how often? Lenovo has software called Vantage, but I'm not sure it it is worthwhile or...

    Fedora Ver37 kernel Question

I will start some new threads. I wll also heed the warning about Grub Customizer. I know enough to get myself into trouble, but usually not enough to get out. Avoidance is better. Thanks for the help.

    Fedora Ver37 kernel Question

I decided to run the code first and then, if that didn't work, I could use Timeshift. It did work. Thanks for the correction. Are those 4 lines of code necessary after upgrades from one version to the next? May I say, if Grub Customizer is problematic, someone should either fix it or remove it...

    Fedora Ver37 kernel Question

Sorry. My brain said 36 to 37. My fingers said somtinng different. Like a bull in a china shop, I grabbed Grub Customizer and it showed a new grub menu list including Kernel 6.1.18-200. I saved it and, when I reboot, the grub menu does in fact show the latest kernel and it does boot from it...

    Fedora Ver37 kernel Question

I just upgraded from F37. All seem to be well. My understanding is that v37 uses kernel 6.xxx. Based on what I see in the grub2 menu, it is booting with kernel 5.18.xx. Is anything wrong? It has been rebooted a couple of times.

    Backup /home with Timeshift

The last time I did it, I installed a new system onto a newer computer and then transferred /home from a backup. Another time I had an unfixable problem with the system and I reinstalled it from a backup without touching /home. I like to keep them separate.

    Backup /home with Timeshift

Not to argue your good advice, but just to seek the reasons why. During my first experiments with Timeshift, I said ah ha, simply switch the includes with the excludes and you can do either or both system and/or user files. How nice. But no. You can do that, but it still includes some of the...

    Backup /home with Timeshift

Is it possible to exclude all of / and just backup /home with Timeshift? Or is that beyond it's purpose? Excluding /root only excludes the /root folder, not all of /. I tried excluding /** and then including /home/**, but there are still a lot of folders and contents in / that get included in...

    Web site login issue

I avoid google as much as I can. I'll continue with Chromium as a backup as long as it works. Thanks for the great advice

    Web site login issue

It helps me to understand a bit. And, I'm not at all surprised by what you say. When I contacted their "community" the most useful piece of information they had to offer was to use Chromium. I will likely continue using Firefox as long as it continues to be provided with the distro. I...
