    Switching to Linux

Apparently that idiom originates with American Baseball.

    Switching to Linux

I very much like and use Kubuntu, it does what I need it to do. I can easily install it on some Laptops, not so easily on others. When you get to the point where it says install, pick the generic video drivers, you can always go back and add the appropriate video drivers after a successful...

    Solved Linux vs hp

I have used Rufus, however balenaEtcher is far easier (my opinion) to use.

    Solved Linux vs hp

According to WIKIPEDIA, RUFUS doesn't do Multiboot. I found balenaEtcher to be very easy to use, to burn one iso at a time.

Maybe try only one bootable iso on the USB Flash Drive, one at a time, then take it from there.

The divorce is final. Now to ditch MS for good! (And a bit of useful info.)

I'll take you up on that bet, lets make it $20, in fact just save yourself the trouble and concede, since I already proved you wrong.

The divorce is final. Now to ditch MS for good! (And a bit of useful info.)

I've been using PCs for several decades, Mac for 19 years. My above commentary was in regard to the so called Write Protected USB Flash Drive, even though it DOES NOT HAVE a Write Protect switch.

The divorce is final. Now to ditch MS for good! (And a bit of useful info.)

I just yesterday experienced the Write Protected notification even though the USB Flash Drive I was using does not have a write protect switch. I did have a Kubuntu iso on a 64GB SanDisk Flash Drive, which I had made with my Kubuntu installed Laptop. I inserted said Flash Drive into a Microsoft...

The divorce is final. Now to ditch MS for good! (And a bit of useful info.)

I still have in my possession an iNTEL 486DX4-100 No, a 286 would not do better. Plus, I would have the option of running 32 Bit OS and apps. It might be fun to install different versions of DOS and Windows with an appropriate boot manager, heck maybe even a copy of OS/2.

The divorce is final. Now to ditch MS for good! (And a bit of useful info.)

Micro$oft wants everyone to be using the same version, it makes things easier for them, plus they've gone to great lengths to make Windows more secure. The only reason to be running an older version of Windows, is if one has expired outdated applications that will only run on those older...

The divorce is final. Now to ditch MS for good! (And a bit of useful info.)

I've used CHKDSK in Windows 10/11 to repair volumes, partitions, and file structures on USB FLASH DRIVES, because it is easy to use. Still using Windows 8.1? Huh? Really? When you download an iso, first look to see how large the download is, then get and use a Flash Drive that is of...

The divorce is final. Now to ditch MS for good! (And a bit of useful info.)

I've never seen any sort of mechanical switch on a USB Flash Drive, but I have received Write Protected notification, which turned out to be volume partition or file system issues on the flash drive. One would have to repair the file structure on the Flash Drive, or just mount and reformat the...

The divorce is final. Now to ditch MS for good! (And a bit of useful info.)

I've never, ever seen any sort of switch on a USB (Thumb) Flash Drive. Unless there is an actual switch, then the write protection notice is likely a file system compatibility issue. I commonly transfer data-USB Flash Drives between Windows 10, macOS, Ubuntu Linux and Android cellphone, but they...

Ubuntu 22.04 on Surface Pro 7+

I will be buying a Microsoft Surface Go 2 and I'm going to try and install Ubuntu/Kubuntu onto it. Basically what I'd like to end up with, is a note taking tablet similar to the reMarkable Tablet, but having a complete OS will give me more options and functionality.

Data Destruction: Recover Neodymium Supermagnets by Disassembling Old Disk Drives

That was an interesting story. A long time ago I bought a couple of RITZ cracker sized neodymium magnets from a surplus store, and decided to play with them. Bringing the magnets close together, they pulled right out of my hands and smashed into each other, with so much force, that sparks flew...

I write books from my MacBook, and want to switch to linux, help!

I'm a long time Mac user, I am also an amateur Linux (Kubuntu) user. What writing, publishing software are you using on your Mac? I'm not a writer, however I use LibreOffice Word Processor on my Mac, on my Linux PC and on my Windows 10 PC. Installing Linux isn't difficult, but like everything...

    Best linux distribution for beginners

Like a few other people have said, if you need Windows, then use Windows, real Microsoft Windows, otherwise why use a Distro that looks like Windows?
