    Configuring Canon printer on Arch

G'day! Been awhile. Got tired of audio driver problems under Pop!OS - I'd reinstall Pulse audio (IIRC) and it would just update itself back to being broken next boot. Steam issues too. So, distro hopped to Arch. Harder to set up, but it doesn't have either of those problems so I'm pretty happy...

    Configuring RGB under Linux

It's working nicely under OPenRGB. The Sapphire card support is basically absent so I loaded Windows onto an old SSD for it. Even in Windows, their website is flakey and their software pretty basic. Fairly good effects options but basic. So I set it to use the RGB header on the board, and...

    Configuring RGB under Linux

After a mighty struggle, I set up a drive with Windows 10 to install Sapphire's "Trixx" software and in it set the GPU to look to it's addressable RGB header for colour direction. Now, it's considered by OpenRGB to be just an extension of the motherboard's lights - so I control in Linux! Woohoo...

    Configuring RGB under Linux

This was too funny not to share. I've got rudimentary control of the Corsair and Asus component RGB LEDS with OpenRGB. Only seems to stay set if you leave the app open, but ok, it's something - I can live with static colours, and I'm running up a Windows VM to see what that can do for it. The...

    Configuring RGB under Linux

Got the system, all assembled now, and we're off to the races. Weeee! And the kids scored my old system in a new case in the bargain. https://linux.how2shout.com/2-ways-to-install-openrgb-on-ubuntu-22-04-20-04-lts/ Getting there. OpenRGB as a starting point. It picked up the Corsair Commander...

Asus Eee PC Seashell - can it live again?

Also, it's getting some use today! Eldest is at home sick. He's been hitting up Tux Math & Tux Typing. Funny to see this old thing getting some use. Not bad, those titles are simple enough for the Seashell. He'll explore what else it has while I'm trying to work.

Asus Eee PC Seashell - can it live again?

I don't see that in the AntiX "Software Installer"... spent about 10min googling away for AntiX apt install atheros ar9285, no clear winners yet. Maybe it doesn't have this driver in any of the repositories it's using at the moment. Current output from inxi -Fxz doesn't indicate a WiFi card at...

Asus Eee PC Seashell - can it live again?

Yes, that's quite true! It has Ethernet connectivity, but it's keeping itself to <1mbps for some reason. Not sure why. Sure makes downloads take a long time. Funny, did not do that on first install with the platter drive, but it does now following reinstall with the SSD. shrug Also, doesn't...

Asus Eee PC Seashell - can it live again?

Thanks, i'll try that later. Noticed also the errant inputs vanish if any key is pressed. Suspect is the keyboard itself. Assessing the "bother" factor before spending more money on this little thing. Just got done replacing the platter drive with an SSD though, so I'm $44aud into this affair...

Asus Eee PC Seashell - can it live again?

Sure, worth a go. But is there an app you'd suggest or a bash lookup table to help identify which one's the offender? Well, you can choose HD resolution in Youtube and it plays, sound & all. That's a little ambitious for a 1366x768 resolution 12" monitor, but it'll download content and play it...

Asus Eee PC Seashell - can it live again?

It's clip in, with a handy access panel for memory modules. But allegedly it can't handle more than 2gb, so no real improvement options there. An SSD for $25 would be easy enough to arrange. It's unfortunately sticking dud key inputs all the time, which bootloaders represent with endless...

Asus Eee PC Seashell - can it live again?

I followed this suggestion and... wahey! A desktop! Doesn't that little thing look happy with itself? I'll test a few things, see that it can browse the web and draw a picture. Looks like the pipsqueaks can mess around with this after all. Thanks for the suggestion, ML_113

Asus Eee PC Seashell - can it live again?

Well, the serial number is still (barely) legible so I ran an Asus serial number lookup. Returned: Eee PC (System) 1215P-BLK137M BCOAAS089611 Outside of Manufacturer Warranty I reckon I can hear a mechanical drive in here... and sure enough, somewhere, some optimist is trying to sell one - oh...

Asus Eee PC Seashell - can it live again?

Morning all! While cleaning out some space I unearthed the old Asus Eee PC "Seashell series", and promptly woke it up to see if it might make something my young kids can mess around with. I intend to build them a desktop, but they'll fight over it, so an extra ensures someone isn't feeling left...

    Configuring RGB under Linux

Morning all, I've ordered new hardware (most exciting!), and I'm kinda open about which distro. Have been quite happy with POP on the old PC and at this point I'll probably roll that again. PopOS with bits like Nala, VIM/VMM etc has been quite refreshing after Windows. Keeping some old bits...
