LG Gram 17 2020 Won't Shut Down on Kernel 5.5+

Not sure, but here is what xinput tells me https://pastebin.com/6jTT1Z2E As for palm rejection, I think by default the touchpad disables entirely while typing, but I found that annoying so I turned it off. As a result it does fling my cursor sometimes when I'm typing, but if you don't need to...

Changing rate of floating window size change i3

So, I use i3, and set all borders to 0. When I make a window float and the default size it pops out is inapprpriate, in i3's resize mode it takes forever to use the arrow keys to change the window size. Since I don't have borders, I can't drag the window edges with my mouse. Is there a way to...

[SOLVED]Certain apps can't determine location of home folder

Well, it ended up being /etc/environment (which I did not know the existence of) using $HOME where it wasn't defined, so all uses of the variable XDG_CONFIG_PATH lead to creating a brand new '$HOME'/.config whenever an application wanted to store a config file. There were almost 90...

[SOLVED]Certain apps can't determine location of home folder

Finally got around to testing your ideas. Unfortunately, the new user I made had all the same issues. Putting $HOME at the beginning of my $PATH variable also didn't help.

[SOLVED]Certain apps can't determine location of home folder

I am using the Bash shell. The value of $HOME is /home/myUser, as it should be. Here is my env. I'll provide more detail for the anecdotes I mentioned. For i3 to pick up my config file, in my ~/.xinitrc I have to specify i3 -c ~/.config/i3/config It should be using the config file in this...

[SOLVED]Certain apps can't determine location of home folder

I am sorry if this question is vague, but ever since I've installed Arch and i3 on my laptop, there have been persistently annoying bugs related to apps not being able to create, edit, or access folders in my home directory that they need to function. For example, I had to manually specify my i3...

Pressing 'a' will sometimes act like pressing 'tab' and/or 'enter' in Firefox text box

I'm using Arch as well. Pretty fun distro except for the occasional weird bug.

Pressing 'a' will sometimes act like pressing 'tab' and/or 'enter' in Firefox text box

Cool find! However, disabling the mod+a keybinding doesn't change the problem. Also, it works without the mod key

Pressing 'a' will sometimes act like pressing 'tab' and/or 'enter' in Firefox text box

I'm not sure whether this is a Firefox thing or a WM thing (I use i3), but oftentimes if I press 'a' in certain Firefox text boxes, it will tab to a different element or finish what the textbox was doing. For example, in the browser version of Discord, when I perform a GIF search, if I try to...

LG Gram 17 2020 Won't Shut Down on Kernel 5.5+

@jglen490 that may only work for older LG Grams, because it didn't work for my 2020 gram

LG Gram 17 2020 Won't Shut Down on Kernel 5.5+

@tpetersohn You are a madlad. How in the world did you discover that. It worked for me, installing the latest Arch release. I still need to find which exact kernel release necessitates that BIOS tweak, but for now we have a fix.

    Are you dual-booting with Windows?

LG Gram 17 2020 Won't Shut Down on Kernel 5.5+

It did not :( If you want to help find out the cause of the problem, you can try bisecting different releases of the kernel to find exactly which patch breaks things. In the Arch forum I linked, someone explains how to it on Arch, but I am getting errors in the build process. If someone else can...

LG Gram 17 2020 Won't Shut Down on Kernel 5.5+

Hello everyone, I was trying to install Arch dual booted with Windows on my LG Gram 17 2020 laptop. Everything worked as expected, except that shutting down, rebooting or halting would result in an infinite hang on a blank screen. You can read the saga (including logs and such) here. Notably...
