    Autostart Programs

This doesn't seem to have done the trick. Everytime I start up again, the firewall is off once more. Is there a setting somewhere else I may have pushed? Probably knowing me!

    'Patching' Steam/Proton

Hi kiba, it's just this game, and the issue is with proton - something to do with alpha pixels. Someone managed to patch it for me and it's working fine now - better than windows infact!

    'Patching' Steam/Proton

Hi all, I am trying to run a game on Manjaro with Steam but run into an OpenGL error. There seems to be a fix for it which requires patching Proton/Wine/. I've followed the instructions here but nothing seemed to happen - it run the compiler, seemed to come to an end (but said it couldn't find...

    Autostart Programs

Hi all, Is there a way to automaitcally activate the Firewall and ProtonVPN on start up? I am using Manjaro with Firewal (gufw), and put both to load in the autostart option in settings, but neither have seem to taken. I can live with the ProtonVPN, but the Firewall seems to be switched off...

    Before I install Manjaro KDE

Thanks again Captain, I tried the rEFInd (possibley imperfectly) but it didn't seem to be able to find any OSs. In the end I've managed to get it all Frankensteined together - Manjaro is now installed on both SSDs and I can boot to the nvme, but with an error saying a device is missing. I press...

    Before I install Manjaro KDE

Just an update - I've decided to just dump windows and install Manjaro. It works fine from the original SSD, but can't boot when I have it only installed on the nvme/PCIe SSD, which is probably the motherboard's fault. Perhaps I can boot it from grub (with Manjaro installed on both drives), the...

setting up an online anonymous presence.

As others have said, and as my own research has shown, beyond truly anonymous online is not possible, particularly if someone really wants to track you. On the other hand, I also don't like big tech and big government just hoovering up data. From what I can tell, the most simple balance to be...

    Before I install Manjaro KDE

Ok, I will need some help now. I installed Manjaro to the nvme SSD, and the Bootloader to the Windows SSD and now it just boots to GRUB recovery. I've looked up rEFInd, but was a bit confused, and I tried to directly install GRUB onto the USB flash but it didn't seem to want to let me. Is there...

    Before I install Manjaro KDE

Thanks for the help guys - I am about to give it a go and the install gives me an option to choose where the bootloader goes, I assume that this is the GRUB and that I want this on the Windows SSD? Thanks! A

    Before I install Manjaro KDE

Thanks, Captain! Win 7 is installed on the SSD, and then there is a HDD just for storage and the nvme SSD I've just added for Manjaro. The Windows SSD is a bursting point, but I can make a bit of room. I will check out the details as you suggest when I get the chance. Thinking about it...

    Before I install Manjaro KDE

I suspect it might be ok, and the fact that Manjaro can identify the nvme is a good sign, my concern is whether the motherboard would let me run an OS from it if it doesn't recognise it. I'd give it a go anyway, but want to know where the GRUB will go first just incase I close off all boot...

    Before I install Manjaro KDE

Hi all, I am ready to try and install Manjaro KDE on the old PC - I have opted for this one as it has the Nvidia drivers in built and so I am not getting the freeze up problem I had when trying other live distros, but before I do I have a couple of questions: 1) I am going to install to an...

    It's alive...

Just wanted to say thank you for all the help I received here - I am now happily typing away on my Mint Laptop via an external SSD. Particular shout out to BrickWizard and kc1di and KGill. Can't wait to get KDE Neon running on the old PC now!

    GTX 660 and Linux

Thanks Wiz. I am sure a lot of it will become clearer with experience (there was a bit of a post delay, so I haven't got all the bits I am after yet). Internet searches do provide a lot of answers, however, sometimes they don't quite cover the specifics.

    GTX 660 and Linux

Thanks, NorthWest. I didn't even realize that was an option, and much easier than what I thought I might have to do (take out the GPU for a bit...).

    GTX 660 and Linux

Hello all, My PC runs a GTX 660, and I am soon going to install KDE Neon on it (waiting for postman). However, a couple of things I have read have left me concerned - 4th post and here. I have experienced the 'freeze' already when running a live Mint off of a pen drive (once quite fast, another...

    PC Upgrades

All the bits are on the way, so one more question (I watch a lot of Columbo) - I realized last night that because I am now installing the SSD on an empty slot, I won't have to remove the old drives. Does this mean GRUB will be installed and will allow me to choose which OS to run each time I...

    PC Upgrades

The Windows slow down has always seemed quite drastic to me. Take my tiny 120GB SSD for example, it's near capacity and I don't think I ever installed anything on it. As for learning by breaking, I am more than happy to do that. It's part of the fun, ultimately.
