startup script to launch terminal and run command

I am on Manjaro KDE and I want a startup script that will launch the xfce4-terminal and run a command in it, and stay open. The command I want to run in it is watch -n 180 "hebcal -T" This command says to repeat hebcal -T every 180 seconds. hebcal -T prints the current Hebrew date in the...

Trying it with TeamViewer, and so far, so good. Thanks for the suggestion. I already had it installed, and didn't even think of it.

If I use TeamViewer free version over LAN, will it disconnect me after a certain number of minutes?

Remote Desktop app -- please recommend

On Windows I use Microsoft Remote Desktop to remote into my Windows 10 machine. Looking for something like that on Linux. I tried Remimma but I was very unhappy with the visual quality. It was really grainy and low-quality. I am connecting over LAN, not over internet. I am just looking for...

Timeshift & Similar Solutions - Safeguard & Recover Your Linux

About initramfs: I recently installed Kubuntu 21.10 onto a btrfs partition, and then I ran a Timeshift restore job onto it, using a backup I had made from my old Kubuntu system that was on a traditional ext4 partition. I enabled the Timeshift option for updating initramfs. What I got was a...

How to safely delete a distro

I nuked Manjaro today, and I noticed an interesting thing. My Kubuntu partition was sda7, and remained sda7. Now I have no sda6 at all. And I have no booting issues, either.

control keyboard lights on razer keyboard

Thanks guys, it's not really a matter of programming my keyboard, it's more a matter of the keyboard getting confused sometimes. A reboot usually will get that led light to behave properly. Just wondering is there is another way to fix it, besides rebooting. This issue crops up randomly.

control keyboard lights on razer keyboard

I have a razer mechanical keyboard, above the set of 4 arrow keys there is a line of 5 lights. The second from the left, which is marked 1, is lighting up all the time. Usually that happens when numlock is on, or I switched to an alternative keyboard layout, or the caps lock is on. But now it's...

How to safely delete a distro

Reinstall and redo everything is too hard. But I have TimeShift backups with all files saved in Home. An idea I thought of: 1 Reinstall Kubuntu 21.10 2 Save the fstab file to a different media 3 Run a Timeshift backup restore 4 copy the saved fstab file into the system

How to safely delete a distro

I have a few distros installed. I want to delete the older ones and keep the new one (Kubuntu 21.10). I know from experience that if I do this, the new distro will have booting issues. What is the right way to do this? I have no swap partition. My fstab looks like this # /etc/fstab: static file...

Is there an upgrade path for Ubuntu 20.04?

That is in fact what I did, and it offered me 21.04, but the upgrade to 21.04 gave me grief. I think chances of success are better if I go from 20.04 to 20.10, and then from 20.10 to 21.04. Baby steps. The problem is I don't know how to get an upgrade to 20.10. Or maybe I just have to be patient...

Is there an upgrade path for Ubuntu 20.04?

I am on Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS with Xubuntu desktop. I want to jump into the semi-annual upgrade channel. I tried upgrading to 21.04 but there were so many issues that I had to revert back to 20.04. I assume this is because I am trying to jump two steps ahead at once. Is there a way I can upgrade to...

Timeshift & Similar Solutions - Safeguard & Recover Your Linux

No need of assistance right now, thanks. I got to where I wanted to be. But maybe you could explain to me the option in Timeshift restore for updating initramfs. What is it and when would I want to use it?

Apparently it was a corrupted snapshot, or a good snapshot of a corrupted system. That's okay when you have lots of snapshots. :)

Still messing around with it. I got to the point where I could boot into Ubuntu 21.04 recovery mode. I couldn't boot into Ubuntu normally because it said I needed to load the kernel first.
