Anyone like classical music?

One of the genres of music I really enjoy and this is one of my many favourite pieces
The Hebrides Overture ( Fingals Cave) by Mendelssohn.

To that you can add Gustav Holst's Jupiter, bringer of Jollity from the Planets suite.

and this one
The Anvil Chorus is the English term for the Coro di zingari (Italian Gypsy chorus), a piece of music from Act 2, Scene 1 of Giuseppe Verdi's Il trovatore (The Troubador, 1853) which depicts Spanish Gypsies striking their anvils at dawn -- hence its English name -- and singing the praises of hard work, good wine, and their Gypsy women. Most recordings will list this as Vedi! Le fosche notturne.

Told you I had many favourite pieces in this genre.

When I heard Vaughan Williams: Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis
It made me look at the "real" Thomas Tallis and I came across Spem in Alium.
It deserves to be listened to on good headphones or speakers.

The Classic FM Hall of Fame is here http://halloffame.classicfm.com/2019/
Every year on Classic FM, in the UK, they hold a poll to find the most popular pieces. 300 of them. Said to be the biggest classical music poll in the world.

When I was in Pisa, Italy, I remember missing seeing Cavalleria Rustica in Piazza de Cavalieri by a few days. Classic Fm #44

I quite enjoy, in the UK, Scala Radio. Lighter. https://planetradio.co.uk/scala-radio/

I also like https://music.klassikradio.de/ (in German, but translate it!) Especially https://www.radio.net/s/klassikradiopureverdi

@Tolkem
Have you ever listened to any of Peter Sculthorpe's compositions. the following is a bit about him

No, I haven't. Thanks for the link I'll look into it. Here's another composer I like too; Prokofiev, dance of the knights

Also, from the classic spaghetti western movie, the good, the bad and the ugly by The Danish National Symphony Orchestra

You probably know this one

This one is ranked among the 50 best classical recordings of the history, Tchaikovsky's symphony Nº 5, Boston Symphony Orchestra, 1944.

I started out with classical music, but have long since left it behind, in favor of new agey stuff. Music has never been that important to me. I basically use it as background noise to muffle the house creaking, fridge sound, cars driving by, etc.

This piece is called the Swan Concerto and the soloist is Zhao Cong and the instrument is called the Pipa ( a Chinese version of what the Europeans call a Lute) and yes I like Chinese Traditional instruments especially the Pipa, Dizi ( a bamboo flute ) Xiao ( a vertical Bamboo flute )
She is an accomplished Pipa player and I like her renditions of songs.
Zhao Cong is the Pipa Principal of the China National Traditional Orchestra, a National Class One Musician, a committee member of the All-China Youth Federation and consultant to the arts troupes of the Peking University.

I used to play Francisco Tárrega music on classic guitar but you need to have long nails on three fingers(and thumb) of right hand to pluck strings- it interfered with my karate ( try clenching a fist with long nails) Classic FM is my go to station of an evening

Not being rude, could you not wear gloves like footballers do?

Or you could just get a set of finger-picks and a thumb-pick?!

As part of its year-long Beethoven Unleashed season to celebrate the great composer’s 250th anniversary, the BBC has announced the latest collaboration between BBC Radio 3 and BBC Sport: Beat Beethoven. The public are invited to join the 5km challenge at Salford’s MediaCityUK in an attempt to ‘beat’ Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.

The run will take kick off at 4pm on Friday 13 March, and runners of all ages and abilities are encouraged to take on the challenge and raise money for Sport Relief. The symphony will be performed live by the BBC Philharmonic under Ben Gernon, with the event broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. Highlights will be filmed for BBC Sport and BBC One later in the evening.

The performance is estimated to last between 30 and 35 minutes, which gives any newbie joggers something to aim for! The circuit will begin at MediaCityUK and travel past the canal and Imperial War Museum, before returning to the television studios.

And it's for a good cause too guys so gear up and particpate, besides, such a race must be really fun
