AV Linux Content Questions

I'm not too familiar with linux content, but i want to find the best video editing, audio-creating (such as to make dubstep) programs currently available. I've also just installed AV Linux 6.0.1 onto a spare 80GB HDD and I'd like to find out if all the content on there is supposed to work. One program was corrupt, many were fairly complex and used unfamiliar terms, and only a few programs (like musescore and handbrake, which I already know how to use) were successful in their application. I tried plugging in a flash drive in fat32 or maybe exfat, and the system wouldn't display the contents (hdd formatted to ext4, should I reinstall it as another ext (2,3, or is 4 fine?) for compatability) and wouldn't pop open a window asking me if I even wanted to see the files. Does linux (AV 6.0.1) do that, like the windows I'm too familiar with? Where are all the desktop programs or any file icons?

I don't fully understand the OS I'm using, so I'd like to see if someone knows the best tools for beginners, or even just points me to another comprehensive guide or video explaining how everything works.

Thanks, Chris W

(I await being corrected...)

Maybe your questions are too wide. It is hard to give a short, simple answer.

AV Linux is based on Debian. Debian is not held up as a distro for newbies, it is perhaps for someone with a little more experience. One little source of information is the LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) Documantations. (Linux Mint is officially an Ubuntu derivative).

Another source of information is through Google Search. E.g. http://www.smallbusinesscomputing.c...-source-video-editors-for-small-business.html to which we can perhaps add Lightsource, and http://www.linux.com/learn/docs/694629-professional-audio-production-on-linux

With your USB stick, and other devices, in Linux they need to be "mounted" first. From my own experience I can often open a File Manager and the USB stick will be shown in there. If it is not than other, more complex, procedures need to be taken.

One general introduction to Linux which I found useful is now 4 years old. It was http://www.tuxradar.com/linuxstarterpack

Thanks! that really helped alot! I'm going to go and look at all those sites and see what I can drum up, but otherwise, I'm still looking at introductory software and maybe a line of software that can help me grow from n00b to pro in a fair amount of toying around, or a youtube channel that delivers tutorials on linux content for absolute n00bs. Any youtubers know about that? I'm an absolute all-the-time youtuber, as well as reddit and linux.org and facebook. I'm going to check on reddit later today for how to use some of these programs but I'm looking for videos, as not previously stated.

In conclusion: do you know any video guides? visual learner here

I assume that you have done a YouTube search for: av linux

Spatry seems to have a few. Although the current version is 6.01 the 3 videos about 5.03 might be worth watching.
