Can I get some browser suggestions?

I have been a long time Firefox user, but ever since it updated a week or two ago I have found it to be very slow in a few things, YouTube lags a lot and streaming video from other sites such as Twitch lags even more. On top of this, I have noticed that when running Firefox the fan starts up after a few minutes whereas with Brave, it doesn't do this. Yesterday I downloaded Brave, and I don't really have any proper complaints about it as it is fast, responsive, video playback is great and the fan rarely comes on.
I would much prefer something with more of a name to it, something that has been going a longer time than this and has as much of a reputation as Firefox for example. It is important to me that whatever I use allows for extensions such as an ad blocker and a VPN, and a good selection of other extensions too.

I have tried Firefox - that's the reason I'm using Brave anyway - Opera, but I find it to be a bit annoying at some things on Android and it puts me off, and Edge but that is horrific, so what other good options are there?

With Linux I use Firefox primarily. When that doesn't play nice I launch Brave.
Pale Moon works pretty well if you want to give it a spin. Some of the plugin's didn't work for me. Not sure why-
Vivaldi is another choice.

For my Android devices Brave works great.

Tor is available for Android if you want to give it a spin.

As a Firefox user, have you noticed any slowdowns or your fan(s) having to work a bit harder? It works fine on both mine and the woman's Windows desktops. They're a lot more powerful than this laptop but Id have thought with how well optimised browsers are these days and how light Linux is, it wouldn't cause any issues.

I hear good things about Pale Moon but I know very little of Vivaldi, I'll keep these in mind.
I've not used Tor in many years now, didn't even think of that as an option for browsing the every day web.

I don't see FF lagging either as desktop or Android (SAMSUNG 23 Ultra) app. However both versions have modified heavily modified config and just one add-on uBlock origin installed. As long as you are satisfied with Brave and or Vivaldi that is most important.

I find Brave very good...I also have Google Chrome but Brave is my most used now as Firefox is now very disappointing.

Microsoft Edge or Google-Chrome ;) On the more serious note, Vivaldi.

If you want something a bit odd but with a wealth of history, try Opera.

However, it's really just another Chromium fork these days. But, once upon a time they were the most innovative browser out there - and they consistently supported Linux. It was good enough that we paid for it back in the day. It's now free to use.

With me, I like "falkon" as a mozilla firefox alternative. It doesn't take long to set up and comes with an ad filter and it seems fast. Some sites, such as ABC news I can't get to work on Firefox, but they work just fine on Falkon. It was in the Manjaro repo, so that was painless. Maybe that would work for you too.

I might as well chime in, I've been a longtime Vivaldi user. It has worked well for me and no lags. Some don't like it because it's not fully open source but neither really is FF these days. Give it a try. I used opera for many years until it was sold to a Chinese outfit. Wasn't the same after that. vivaldi right now does everything I need. good luck in your search.

I have noticed some news on yt that Firefox issued some patches to fix the extensive fan use. I haven't had a problem with this browser as I haven't used it in the PC for ages, and that one in my Android behaved so far.

I've been using Vivaldi for a few months now. I'm quite happy with it, I even just found another feature I didn't realize was built into Vivaldi meaning I can remove the extension I was using for that. Love how much settings you can change which then makes it so that you don't really need any extensions except maybe a privacy extension and/or a password manager.

I use ALL of the above. And THEN some...

  • Google-Chrome
  • Chromium
  • Brave
  • Opera
  • Iron
  • Vivaldi
  • Slimjet
  • Ungoogled Chromium
  • Firefox (mainline & ESR)
  • LibreWolf
  • SeaMonkey
  • PaleMoon
  • Basilisk
  • Midori
  • ....even M$ Edge!

Etc, etc.....

I maintain 'portable' builds of all these for the Puppy Linux community, so that's why they're all on the system.

Tried Falkon (used to be known as QupZilla). Weird mixture of QtWeb & Blink (it's a KDE special; what d'you expect?) Didn't like it, so gave that one a miss.

I run Epiphany under HaikuOS. The Haiku team's port works great.

To me, a browser's a browser. They all perform the same task.....that of permitting access to / interaction with the rest of the internet. They're the "glue" that hold online communities together, whether on a PC or laptop, or a smartphone or pad.....without them, none would exist in their current format.

It's all down to personal preference at the end of the day. For me, Opera currently leads by a whisker, because its 'Workspaces' feature lets me organise the browser as I do my Puppy desktop.....different stuff on different desktops/workspaces. Less confusing!

With me, it's literally a case of "eeny, meeny, miny, mo...." as to what I choose to use for the day... :D

I'm missing Internet Explorer in your list Mike! ;)
Auughh! I gave Internet "Exploder" the bum's rush as far back as I can remember. Around 2005, I think.....shortly after FF showed up. (At the time, it was the only really viable alternative under XP). Chrome wouldn't appear for another 3 years yet...

'Trident' was frickin' useless! For all their resources, M$ never could write a decent browser.
