2025 is a year where we can celebrate the end of life of Windows 10 doing lots of install parties either in person or with livestreams.

I am going to do one in Spanish this Friday and I had some fun preparing some slides to use as stills. I translated this one for the grabs!

yeah... but we've still got like 9 months - and even then most folks that are on the fence will wait a while.

That's a lot of months you have to host some install parties and push as many folks you can over the fence.

[Opinion] Win10 user planning to move to Lx before EoL. Recommendations have been strongest Fedora or Mint - opinion? My bigger concern is 15+ years with OneNote and I have not been successful moving to Joplin. Thank you for your suggestions/opinions.

Zim
Graphical txt editor based on wiki tachnologies
Zim is a graphical text editor used to maintain a collection of wiki pages.

Each page can contain links to other pages, simple formatting and inline images. Pages are stored in a folder structure, like in an outliner, and can have attachments. Creating a new page is as easy as linking to a nonexistent page.

All data is stored in plain text files with wiki formatting. Various plugins provide additional functionality, like a task list manager, an equation editor, a tray icon, and support for version control.

Zim can be used to:
  • Keep an archive of notes
  • Take notes during meetings or lectures
  • Organize task lists
  • Draft blog entries and emails
  • Do brainstorming
Zim is available via the Linux Software Manager. It is free. I have used it for around 5 years, and intend to keep on using it.
I use it to keep notes relating to Linux, and other topics. Supremely organisable.

Fedora - Mint
Put each one on a usb stick and boot to each one.
Easy enough to do. Plenty of people here can show you how.

What somebody else thinks is meaningless. Each individual places value on aspects which you most probably don't. Your own instinctive decision will be right, for you.

Just a note : https://linux.oneandoneis2.org/LNW.htm

May help you realise some of the differences between windows and Linux, but not all.

Mint is good, and it's a good place to start learning. I've tried Fedora and it's good as well. I like Arch (tons of documentation). my suggestion would be to try 5 or 10 distros to find the one you like.
