Whenever I try to start my Linux Mint, I’ll enter my login info and be met with cinnamon-session-cinnamon and a black screen after pressing ok. I’ve loooked at a bunch of stuff and Ctrl Alt F2, login, and after typing sudo apt-get install cinnamon, Y, it says Could not resolve ‘archive.Ubuntu.com’ and could not resolve packages.Linuxmint.com and another could not resolve archive Ubuntu com, and then 5 E’s failed to fetch etc etc. Can someone please help me?

G'day confusion, Welcome to Linux.org
Which version of Linux Mint....21.3?.....22?....earlier?

Is this a fresh install?......if not has it booted successfully before this error ?

Maybe try changing the mirror.

The above message would indicate that the mirror is either down and or can't be reached.

When you get a chance answer Condobloke's questions.

If you need some help to change mirrors, just yell out

I’m currently running Linux Mint 21.3, and it has booted succcesfully before.

As @Alexzee said....there does appear to be a 'mirror' problem in the midst of this. I am not entirely sure that the mirror problem (being unable to resolve archive Ubuntu com, and then 5 E’s failed to fetch etc etc.)
It would be reasonable to change mirrors.....perhaps doing that will fix the whole show....maybe not

Click on the Update icon in the system tray (the small 'shield' shape)

Then on Edit....then Software Sources...then insert your password

you will see;

click on line 1.....JUST ONCE
It will begin the arrange the available mirrors in order of speed....fastest down to slowest.
This will take a minute or so....be patient
Select the top one (fastest)
Then repeat this on line number 2

When finished just close it ....no need for reboot....although you can if you wish.

Any improvement?......Does clicking on the Update icon and choosing 'Refresh' bring about a completed, succesful search etc for updates, with no errors ?

I don’t see a shield icon, am I in the right place?

When you have the mirror problem sorted, (not before) right click on the shield icon and select 'Refresh'

That will bring about a search for updates. It is imperative that pc is kept up to date at all times.

You can also achieve the same thing by clicking on menu and typing in 'Update Manager'....click on Refresh there, and it will show the list of available updates.

In either case click on Install Updates.
Install them ALL.

If a kernel update is downloaded and installed ther will be an orange banner across the top of the update manager screen saying that a reboot is necessary.....it is best to do it straight away before you forget.

did you just upgrade from Linux Mint 20.3 to 21.3....by any chance ?

This question is a bit late.......but...Do you have Timeshift set up ?

Ok.
Do you have contact with e person/people who gave it to you?.....are you able to ask them what its history is.....what problems they had with it ? I know this could be awkward so if you would rather not ask, I understand.

I can talk to him but I’d rather not, so what the alternative?

If this were my machine mate I would download the current version of Linux Mint (22) verify the integrity of the .iso image and then proceed with a fresh installation.

You could run that .iso Live before the installation to find out the hardware info first if you'd like.

It sounds like the users home configuration could be mis-configured/broken.

What's the 'exact make' and model of your laptop?

Understood.

Just give me a short while...I am asking around

@confusion, get to the terminal area again...ctrl+alt+F2

and copy and paste this command in......if you have to type it be careful to reproduce it exactly

Code:
sudo apt-get install mint-meta-cinnamon

Then your password

Then hit enter

If the install appears ready

then enter:

Code:
sudo reboot
