My Control Centre does not open after upgrading Mint 15 to 16. I also need help enlarging the partition for this OS. Should I reinstall or install Mint 17 from DVD? I am using this copy of Mint as the control OS for a complex multiboot system.

1) How did you upgrade?

2) Have you tried the Terminal? Connect to the Internet and use the following commands one-at-a-time.
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Any result/breakages?

I did not see any errors or mention of breakages.

Control Centre still does not open. I don't know how likely this is to become a problem in the future. Are there other ways to access the various settings normally accessed via Control Centre? I don't specifically need Control Centre for anything at this moment. I notice that in some other distros there is nothing specifically called "control centre." BTW, there are also problems with Software Manager in that most of the categories listed do not bring up any of the programs available in that category. Is there a way to "clean up" the installation, by getting rid of possible unnecessary files.

What happens is you try to remove it entirely and install it again?
sudo apt-get purge mate-control-center
sudo apt-get install mate-control-center

I should point out that this fixed the issues I had with Software Manager as well. Thanks again.
