I would like to try on my laptop, for daily use a Debian distribution, but I am undecided between Debian Stable and LMDE.

Try one. Try the other. Repeat as needed until you can decide for yourself. ;)

At an acceptable security level, which can be better?

I don't look much at the aesthetic side but at stability and above all safety.

Linux is acceptably secure.

Try them both. They are both debian

This is not windows you are trying

Good.

If it helps in your decision making, I've been running Debian stable since Debian version 6. That was back in Feb. of 2011.
Debian stable is now version 12.

Never had any security issues. Had there been any issues I would have gotten an e-mail from the Debian Security Team as I'm subscribed to the Debian mailing list.

LMDE ran great on my laptop and it ran well for a year, no problems.

Try them both like our members above suggested.
Via a Live USB or you can try them in a Virtual Machine of your choice.

I have been running Debian stable off and on for many many years. Have never had a serious problem with it. Just solid and stable. It's a great work horse of a Distro. But the advice to try LMDE and Debian live is a good one should you choose debian to install though I would use the net install image. As there have been problems in the past when installing from the live .iso.
Good Luck with which ever you choose.

Yesterday I installed Debian stable 12 and I really like it, I will also subscribe to the Debian mailing list, maybe I will also try LMDE. Thank you very much for your post.

I had no problems installing Debian stable 12. I had good luck :) Thank you very much for your post.

i've been trying the debian desktop environments out recently since they let you pick one. My advice is they are good and work well, but avoid LXQt and Cinnamon because there are big issues with their network manager software. Mate and gnome work fine, but i don't really like how gnome is now designed like the Fedora desktop.

if you want security, try qubes os, where you can run debian templates.

As said, if you look for a workhorse Debian is your distribution, LMDE might be just as stable, I have no experience with it, but I have tested extensively Debian 11 for 3 years and it is working like the first day

5-1/2 one way 6 another.

MX-Linux is an excelent choice just as LMDE or SparkyLinux.

Any Debian based Linux distro is a good choice.

I use MX-Linux and SparkyLinux and both work well.

I have already installed Debian stable 12 and I think I made the right choice.

Thank you very much, I have installed Debian stable 12 (Gnome as Desktop environment).

I already have Kali Linux.
Kali and Qubes are way different - Kali is for penetration testing offensive security - Qubes is for single machine security through isolation defensive security

Good. You're welcome.

If there are any vulnerabilities the Debian Team (dev's in Debian Security) will e-mail you on the topic and tell you what to do.

The Debian Administrators Handbook is a real gem too.

Enjoy your new Debian system and congrats on your fresh installation.

Cheers,
Alex
