That's quite a change and not something I'd have expected from Debian.
It'll make it easier for newbies. So, that's a positive thing. I'm seeing that open source stalwarts will still be able to have a system without the non-free drivers.

Also if I understand well, the non-free drivers will be updated regularly like the rest of the software
