I'm new to Linux Mint.
In Linux Mint,at Installer partition manager, there is "Device for bootloader installation.I'm not sure which is the correct one to fill in the space, disk device or efi (ESP)partition.
After reading a few posts on this subject matter, there is conflicting advice & no definite reply.

So far these are the answers i came upon.:
1.If the boot system is legacy/BIOS, choose the device /dev/sda straight away
2.If the boot system is UEFI, choose the partition where the UEFI files are stored, with a name /dev/sda. where the dot indicates the partition number where the EFI files(ESP) reside.

And in a dual boot (windows&linux)following the same rules

There are other views too such as sticking to device Hardisk /dev/sda no matter what the installation system is.

In certain system, even the root partition "/" as device for bootloader installation.

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this issue.

2) basically yes so i have
Code:
Device Start End Sectors Size Type
/dev/sda1 2048 206847 204800 100M EFI System
/dev/sda2 206848 6313983 6107136 2.9G Linux swap
/dev/sda4 6313984 122140671 115826688 55.2G Linux filesystem

my system is uefi so i installed grub to /dev/sda1 in my case

1) if its not uefi , boot record will be installed to MBR , so yes just choose /dev/sda

an uefi Windows and linux will look for boot files stored on the efi partition

G'day gbn15, Welcome to Linux.org

As a new user of Linux, your first approach appears to be a little more complicated than it perhaps needs to be.

Have a read of the following article and see if it makes sense for your situation.
