I tried again. First just as I always have just to take notes to give you specifics:
Select 'Install Mint' on desktop of Mint Live usb.
The Installing prog has 'Install as Superuser at top
Welcome screen: Select language
select: 'don't connect on line.
select: Do not install 3rd party software.
Message: Forced UEFI : 'machines firmware has started installer in UEFI mode, but it looks like other OS using BIOS. If you continue you may have difficulty'
The guidance was to select UEFI [otherwise your choice is to quit installation.
Select: 'Something else' rather than to install over whole disk wiping out windows.
This gives you the partition window from the screen shoot.
I tried to install without any changes. In the window at the bottom which asks where you want the boot loader to go I tried sda3 first as usual, then I thought I'd give sda1 a try. All give the message 'no root files defined' 'Please correct from partitioning menu'
Then I tried making sda1 the /boot and sda3 /home for the first time with sda1 selected at the bottom as the place to install boot loader...same message. What's next? At least windows is not crashing. Also I did not see the window attempting to install as I did yesterday...mmmm.
