I'm using Firefox as my main and default browser. The problem is that the uploading functionality stops working after some time. When I reinstall Firefox, it works properly for a while, allowing me to upload files or photos. However, after some time, it stops working for an unknown reason. When I click a button to open the file selection interface, it simply doesn't open. I need to fully uninstall and reinstall Firefox again, which is extremely annoying.

I want to know the real problem to avoid it and not have to reinstall the browser. It happens every 20 to 30 days.

G'day SerchoD, Welcome to linux.org

This could be an add on problem

Click on settings, and open add-ons & themes

click on the
1720053269896.png
to turn all of them off

Check to see if your upload procedure works.....if it does, then one of the add-ons is interfering.

Then click on one only to turm it on again.....check your upload procedure .....if it upload still functions then that particular add-on is not the problem
Work your way through all of them in this manner

Let us know if that solved the problem

Thanks for your help!

I think it is quite possible that the problem is caused by extensions because I use many.

I tried turning all of them off, closing Firefox, and reopening it to test, but the problem still persists.

Also, when I reinstalled Firefox, I used all my extensions all the time until the problem appeared, as I mentioned, sometimes between 20 to 30 days.

And the worst part is that I can't figure out what is causing the problem.

Can you think another idea to look out and try to understund and solve this problem?

Thanks!

Another possibility is a broken package or dependency

from the terminal, try the following sequence

sudo apt update && sudo apt --fix-broken install
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt update && apt upgrade
sudo apt autoremove

I tried all these commands, and not fixed the problem yet.

Also tried killall firefox, and turn off all extensions, reboot the pc, and start firefox again.

Problem persists.

Eventualy I will uninstall and reinstall firefox, but in my experience the problem will be appear in maby a month...
I did this 3 times... I realy wante to try to avoid the process :(

In over 20 years its a problem I have not come across, so it was my best guess.

When you try to upload, is your internet working otherwise?....can you still open a fresh web page in Firefox at the same time?

The problem is not internet, and is not the specific action to Upload a file (Upload to the browser, not to a server).

The problem is, for example, if you open to write a new Email, in any email, web, etc, you have the clasical Clip Icon to upload files, well, when I click this Icon Its supoused to Open a Windows for File Search.

This action is the action that doesn't happen, this windows don't opens, these button does nothings at all...

But, when the website has the option to Drag and Drop a file, to upload it, this functionality works fine.

So the problem is that the Windows PopUp to File Search In My Systems, doesn't works when click any uploading button in any web site.

Now I am getting confused, I thought your problem was your browser not working, or are you accessing online mail servers via your browser, if so then it may be a security issue [setting] causing the problem [I had a similar problem a few years back whilst on Cyprus, I had to change to a diffrent browser [with lower security settings]]

Probably the confusion is caused by my English explanation skills. Sorry.I will try to explain myself one more time, using a translator for help :)

I have a 100% working Kubuntu system.

I usually use Firefox as my main browser for everything, and in all other aspects, it works perfectly, no problem at all.

The only problem is this: when I click a button to upload a file, for example, in a form to upload a PDF or an image, the window to browse my files doesn't open.

What makes it strange is that if I reinstall Firefox with all the configurations the same way I have them right now (I'm sure they are the same because I have a Firefox account, and upon reinstalling, all the settings and extensions load automatically, which is why I want to keep using Firefox and not switch to another browser), the problem DOESN'T exist for 20 to 30 days... And I don't do anything special, no strange downloads or installations for the browser, nor do I change settings... It just stops working, and I only realize it when I need to upload a file in any form, which is not a daily activity...

Been doing some digging, this appears to be fairly common yet no one seems to know what is the exact cause, most say there is a problem with some add ons, the recommendation is to do a clean re-set of Firefox, see

Keep a second, separate profile, without any extensions, and use that for uploads. Inconvenient, yes, but if it works, it works.

You said you have many extensions. How many ?

I've never had your problem either...the only problem I have with Firefox is it's a little slow to load sometimes. I also have Brave and Google Chrome with zero problems...maybe try Brave.

9.

But, I cant say the extensions are causing the problem, because I use them normaly, and the problems shoots by 'I don't know what specific condition or action.', But is not directly linked to the instalation of an extension, for example.

Thanks all for the atention.

Yes, usingo other browser is my why, just when I need to upload a file.

But I'm not only interested in uploading files, this is not the issue.

I'm interested in know the problem and try to solve, by the love to art :)

I value your interest and can appreciate your dedication/determination in rectifying the problem.

--:A few questions:--
-Are you using the version of FF that was installed with your fresh installation of Kubuntu?
-Is that version an ESR and if so, what version is it?

Have you had a look at the config for mozilla under the hidden files:
~/.mozilla? Is it installed to /usr/bin/firefox and are the arguments in the shellscript what they should be?

-Can this same issue be reproduced under a new user's profile and DE session?

When time allows, investigate and see if there's any bugs for this distribution under the current kernel you're using. If I recall correctly bugs for Ubuntu based systems are on lauchpad.

Sometimes config's get munged up and as a result, performance doesn't comply and proper functionality lacks/fails.
The config file is where the application get's it's instructions, binding polices, runtime needs and how it interacts with the rest of your system.
