Hi all,
I have an experimental laptop on which I have two hard drives installed.
My question is: how to I format one of the hard drives; wipe it completely of all partitions.
I want to delete everything that's on it now, and start fresh. It has nothing but empty partitions on it now, as per the attached pic.
Thanks in advance.

I think you could use GParted to format the drive. You would likely need to delete the partitions already defined. That should result in all the hard drive disk space as being "unallocated". Then 'format' as desired. I'm not sure but you may need to make at least one large partition in order to format a file system.
edit> P.S. Be SURE it is the correct drive!

Thanks for the quick reply.
Unfortunately, those three partitions you see cannot be deleted: they don't give me the option to do so.
So I am stuck at the picture you see - as far as Gparted is concerned.

Odd. Must be an "ownership" issue?
DBAN - Dariks Boot And Nuke will erase the drive. All partitions and data. I use it quite often.
Just be extra, extra careful you are 'nuking' the right drive!

Will give it a try.

Solved!
A little thought and some luck, and it was so simple.
I decided to do a full install of another OS and use the whole disk.

Now I can use Gparted to re-size that partition and add others.
I sometimes wonder how I got this old without completely disintegrating in the brain! LOL.
Thanks Vrai for triggering something in this old brain.:)o_O
