Good morning everyone,

I left my laptop open over night and i found it next morning with frozen screen.
I restarted it but when I entered my password in welcome screen GUI cant be load.
I am able to log in my account with my pass in tty.

So no problem with my account. Do anyone knows what is happening or any way to log in as root in GUI tty?

I ran Mint 18.3 in DEll inspiron.

Thanks a lot

1) Could it be as simple as
Code:
startx
?

2) Try draining power from the laptop
a) Remove the charger
b) Remove the battery
c) Press down and hold the power button for 30 seconds
Try again

I checked /home/don/.Xauthority and found to be ok
belong to my account.

startx command gave me an error :
can not connect to server

I'm trying your second option now @arochester and let you know

Thanks

Ladies & Gentlemen,

As I was searching in internet for solution on my above problem, among other post, I read this one:
Capture.PNG

Pls note that post has two negative votes!! but suddenly I remember that one day before I produced a new snapshot in "Time shift"
and my Hard disk was totally full.

So I entered in /timeshift/snapshots and I deleted an old snapshot manually from tty.
Once space get free, GUI loaded normally.
I don't know what is the reason and the connection between space of internal HD and GUI but something really exist there.
Probably somebody else in here can explain us.

Anyway Thanks once again!!!!

Hey Capta, you're getting good at this troubleshooting and tty stuff, goodonyer. :)

We might have to stick a label under your avatar "This bloke is low maintenance". :D

If you have a schedule for Timeshift snaps, modify the settings to delete after say 5 days if the Inspiron is in daily use, or remove the schedule and just do on-demand.

Any Timeshift questions, swing over to my Tute here
