So im new to the whole linux scene and wanted to try it out for myself. the hard drive in my computer is done for so ive been looking for a version of linux i can still play steam on. i tried out ubuntu and it worked fine but i wasnt able to get steam on it so i started searching for a different one, but all of them i try wont boot up on my computer and im unsure why. if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

I just looked in Synaptic on my Kubuntu, and steam is packaged for installation. it should also be instalable in Ubuntu. Once you have steam installed, you will have to look for any applications to run in it.

its no the fact that it wont install but whenever i go to update it or run it it says it doesnt have enough storage space despite me having more than enough space on my flash drive to run it and im not really sure what the issue is

Are you running Linux on a flash drive?

If your hard drive is broken and you are running from a flash drive there are three methods with a flash drive.
1) "Ordinary". This works like a LiveCD and when you reboot you will lose any changes you have made. I suspect this is what you have.
2) "Persistence". This is where you have an extra partition, like a Home. You can save some things but not all - like configurations.
3) "Full Install". This is where you make an actual installation to the flash drive. Everything, depending on the size of the drive, can be saved.

You need to make a full installation to the flash drive.

Perhaps the "best" distro for your needs is GamerOS. Look at https://www.forbes.com/sites/jasone...inux-gaming-os-is-great-for-your-living-room/
