I'm using a 2TB External HDD which must be formatted to EXT4.

With the formatted HDD plugged in...open Timeshift...go to Users and select...Include All Files.

Then go to...Location and select your External HDD click...OK...then click...Create. Timeshift and a snapshot will be installed on the External HDD.

To restore a Timeshift snapshot from an External HDD or SSD...you must use the Live Session otherwise it might not Boot once restored.
With the Eternal HDD plugged in...Boot to the Live Session...Do not click install Mint.

In the Live Session go to the Menu and type in the search box...timeshift and select it...then Next...select your External HDD...click...Finnish..

You'll now see your Snapshots...select one and click...Restore...

I find it easy to do it this way because you don't have to worry about size or the Drive failing and you can delete older snapshots if you want...as we all know you should never have backups on the same Drive as the installed Distro. Hope this helps.

That's not correct, Bob, as I have just done so with this Linux Mint, and Brian @Condobloke has also done so any number of times, but I will have to sign off for now, so I will explain more when I am online tomorrow.

It is as I said here

Cheers

Chris

You're right...tried Booting from the External HDD on the Desktop on my spare SSD today and it Booted but was not the case sometime ago when I was setting up Timeshift.

Several times it wouldn't Boot but every time I tried from the Live Session it would...so it's always best to be sure than sorry.

I've changed in post 1...to.. it might not Boot...which I think is about right.
