It's no reason to frown. Invest the time to learn Linux and then learn penetration testing. You have to know how to use and maintain your tools for them to do you any good.

Not sure but certainly with Debian either you have to download iso with none free or add none free.

Also there is another approach to playing with Kali and still be able to install software- have a look at Ventoy thread where i show how kali live is put to use on a usb stick with persistence. My live version has no problem making use of my laptop wifi

The wifi in Kali is disabled by default. (at least it was last time I checked)

From your first screenshot, it seems that your wifi is Broadcom BCM43142. The video below will explain the steps for installation. (See answer #12 in Kali thread here for details).
The next time you've encountered such issue, look for answer on Youtube or Kali Linux forum. Type in Google site:kali.org broadcom driver.

I had the same problem, tried installing wifi drivers but never worked. I was dual booting Kali with Windows 10, and I solved the wifi problem with clicking on restart option in Windows rather than shutting down then booting into Kali installer. Hope this works for everyone experiencing such problem. Laptop HP Elitebook 850 g6

It depends on How you install Kali,
if you installed into a VM then you will not have wi-fi as it will be controlled by the machine's host
if you installed direct to hard-drive, then running inxi -Nn will tell you what wi-fi chip you have,
BUT as my erstwhile friend @KGIII has said Kali is not a beginners' distribution, the developers expect you to be experienced Linux users and proficient using the terminal

Y'know, I've been wondering about this......"phenomenon".......for years.
In almost every single case, these potential Kali users have never set foot near Linux in their lives. Yet to a man, they ALL seem to home in on one of the most awkward distros it's possible to find for a beginner. Where IS the impetus for all this coming from?
(Me, I still say re-runs of Mr. Robot have a lot to answer for.......though social media probably plays a BIG part in this persistent, ongoing fascination with pen testing distros. That, and too many folks with too much time on their hands, and no interests to keep them occupied..!)

I quit answering Kali posts because of this, 90% of the Kali topics are people who are new to Linux who don't want to learn Linux but want to learn how to hack without actually wanting to learn Linux where most of those tools run on.
Gentlemen at #es 11, 12 and 13, while I agree with your sentiments, it is not our responsibility to be judgmental in this instance.

What the actual......Stop and think about that for a second. Download Kali.......can't get his wireless network configured........He does know that the single most important skill to have is knowing how networks function and how to access them right? Well he can't even get access to his own network, I certainly wouldn't worry about him getting into anyone elses. "Hello World"
