Not sure but certainly with Debian either you have to download iso with none free or add none free.

it might be a simple case of adding none free to your /etc/sources list try giving output of :

cat     /etc/apt/sources.list
Also there is another approach to playing with Kali and still be able to install software- have a look at Ventoy thread where i show how kali live is put to use on a usb stick with persistence. My live version has no problem making use of my laptop wifi

no it's not disabled by default , to be able to help you what WiFi adapter are you using ?
and googling kali linux wifi drive installation tutorial

I had Kali installed and didn't encounter this issue. Anyway, this issue had been asked on Kali Linux forum. So, you might want to check the link below:
Installing wifi driver on Kali
From your first screenshot, it seems that your wifi is Broadcom BCM43142. The video below will explain the steps for installation. (See answer #12 in Kali thread here for details).

If you have similar issue in the future
The next time you've encountered such issue, look for answer on Youtube or Kali Linux forum. Type in Google site:kali.org broadcom driver.

This video might help as well.
