I think someone is accessing my system remotely.

Also might want to check your Clients List on you router some routers may call it a Device Table - if you live in an apartment complex or are living close by your equipment maybe picking up your neighbors WiFi or Bluetooth, etc if they do not have it secured

You don't need to configure any vnc server unless you need to access your PC / Linux from a remote location
Vnc allows you to control your PC remotely from a different location or from your same network if the hackers know your wifi password and you think your system is compromised don't set up a VNC server
That's what I was thinking. Thank you.

Password security, it may surprise you, but the most common password is just that, "password" then come 1234567890, qwertyu, and zxcvbnm, all will be beaten by a good password cracker in a few minutes, but most people fall into the family and favourite trap, name of wife, children, grandchildren, the town you were born, favourite sports star, drink, pets name, food, etc these are a little harder for the outsider to crack, But anyone who knows you will try these first,
to make a strong password, take 2 or 3 random words[I will do this with the aide of my dictionary by opening it at random and taking the first and last word on the page, OK I got "parquet and together" now how can we make it stronger one way is to change the t to a 7 and the o to a 0, so now we have parque7and70ge7her that's a bit stronger, let's have a few capitals but NOT at the beginning of any word, so we get pARquE7and70Ge7hEr, much stronger finally add a couple of wild cards, and we end up with pAR-quE7/and_70G+e7h/Er that would be a strong password
Thank you for all of your suggestions. I am going to run the sudo inxi -n command. BTW do you know of any good videos I can watch to become more acquainted with Linux? I always thought I was good with computers but now I am humbled as I know absolutely nothing...

Videos are almost always distro-specific. Which do you want to start learning with? You

A more general Intro to Linux

@arochester gave a link I had not seen before that strikes me as a good learning resource for GNU/Linux -- https://linuxjourney.com/
In addition, Rute User PDF and LinuxLinks may prove helpful.

WiFi is disabled on my fiber optic modem. I keep it that way and have to login to monitor and change settings periodically. I get online with a cat6 ethernet cable only. Wifi is the most common means of hackers stealing internet service and accessing a person's info. I look at it as a cost of convenience I am unwilling to pay.

Thank you very much for this information. I just bookmarked the linuxjourney.com link. So, if you have wifi disabled what do you when it comes to your smart devices? Assuming you have them.

Assuming you have them.
The OH has a smart TV, I only enable the Wi-Fi when she wants to catch up on her brain-dead soaps, we don't have the need for a smart coffee maker/toaster or any other appliance as for the spy devices [Alexa or similar] they would not be allowed through the door.

You can just generate strong passwords without much effort - even without any additional software.

No smart phone. Roku TV runs off my landlord's wifi and it is not dependable -- hotspots keep showing up to steal half the bandwidth on his wifi.
