Installing Linux on new Asus A509

No. I want to use Windows separately. Entirely separately -- even if I have to reboot the machine to do. I can live with a toggle function for the time being. I suppose toggling would be easy enough?
With a dual boot system the two systems are for the most part separate. And you still have to reboot and choose which system you want to boot into. Windows or Linux. This is done by what's called the Grub boot loader. which will boot either windows or linux your choice. Again here is another page that may explain it for you. Dual booting In linux you will have a learning curve but once you get the hang of it you'll most likely not use Windows that much. Good luck.
