As usual, this tutorial assume you already have the USB drive burned, and an empty OS disk.
Normally is there is no bootable OS on your hard drive, your computer will boot from the USB drive, if not select the USB drive from the boot menu.
I do have to say, openSUSE has one of the better looking grub menus. For this tutorial, just use your up and down arrow keys to select "Installation" and press [Enter]
You will then see the installation loader. A tri-colored prgress bar will extend acrosss the bottom.
I got a message here, that the image I downloaded didn't haveall the repo infomration I needed. But it asked if Iwanted to download it, so I selected "Yes" and pressed [Enter]
It then started to download the repo information.
After this it downloaded the package list.
Now we get to the License screen. You can read it, or just click "Next".
Next it asks me if I want to activate these repositiries. You can click on "Yes" here. Then click on "Next" at the bottom of the screen.
I can select the repositries I want to use here. Unless you're a developer, I would just with the top three. They are already selected by default, so you can just click on "Next".
It will then write the repository information to the disk.
Next, it will ask you for the role of the computer. This is simply what you want the computer to do. You can be a KDE workstation, or a KDE workstation or a Server. It's up to you. Most of you will want to pick either "Desktop with KDE Plasma" or "Desktop with GNOME".
Then click next at the bottom of the screen.
The installer will then show you a summary of about what it's going to do to your disk. If everthing looks correct, just click on "Next".
It will then try to sync the time on yor computer with the opensuse NTP (network time protocol) server. But even though it successfully does this...
It still asks me to select a time zone. You can go ahead and select the correct time zone here. Then click on "Next".
Next we finally get to the user account creation screen. Enter your username here. (No spaces allowed) and enter your password as well. Remember this password! You will not be able to use your computer if you lose or forget it. Write it down if necessary.
Now it will give a summary of everything it is about to do. You can take a quick scroll through the list, or you can can just click on "Install" at the bottom of your screen.
It will will then ask you to confirm the choices you made.
After all of that, it will finally start the installation. Note, this takes a fair amount of time. This took nearly twice as long as any of my other installs.
You will see a green progress bar going across the bottom of the screen. First it installs all the packages.
After a long period of time. This took about 10 minutes on my computer it will start preparing the boot loader.
It will finally tell you the system is going to reboot. You don't have to click on "Next". The computer will automatically reboot on it's own.
When the screen turns black, go ahead and remove the USB installer drive.
When the computer is restarted you will see the boot menu. Just select the top option to login.
As usual, there is a tutorial we can go through, or you can just close it if you like.
Once all of that is completed, you can click on the little Gecko head in the bottom left corner. This is where all your applications are located.
Congratulations. You are running openSUSE Tumbleweed Linux from your computer.
