Hello,

I’ve been able to install and reboot Ubuntu consistently without any issues. My goal is to run Mint or Zorin.

However, I’m facing problems with Mint and Zorin OS. Mint gets stuck on a black screen and displays the Grub menu every time I try to boot. Zorin also gets stuck on its logo screen.

Interestingly, I can reboot Ubuntu multiple times without any issues. I’m using a Lenovo Yoga 7 with an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor and unified graphics. Secure boot is turned off and oddly enough the only thing I can change about my UEFI is boot order. No legacy as far as I can tell.

I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide in resolving these issues.

G'day Lenoguy, Welcome to Linux.org

Is this a dual boot arrangement with Ubuntu ?

Read the above...it may help

Did you see this screen:

When you boot to ISO burned on the Flash Drive...you'll see this...

Mint is loading.
Then you'll see this...the Grub Menu...hit Enter

Then Mint will boot to the Live Session Desktop...

Now hit...Install Linux Mint.

When I tried installing the other distributions, it was coming from Ubuntu each time.

At this point I have installed and reinstalled mint at least six times. It works fine until
I try to reboot the system. Thanks for your response.

When the install finished did you remove the Flash Drive and hit Enter ?

If you did...you'll see the Login Screen...enter your password and hit Enter...it will boot to the Desktop.

So I got that far and then it does an update saying it will require a restart once it’s done. When I try to restart it just gets stuck at the black screen.

When you get to that black screen, what happens if you press CTRL + ALT + F3?

When you get to the Desktop for the first time you'll see the welcome screen...

Just go down the list...you will then run the Update Manager to install all updates...sometimes you'll be asked to re-start...which will bring you back to the Login Screen.

In 10 years of running Linux Mint Cinnamon...I've never had the problem you have...even when installing Mint in Virtualbox.

Do you have a Graphics Card...this may be the problem...go to System Settings and run the Driver Manager...

I'm using a Graphics Card...you can change it to the open source...which will need a re-start...

This may or may not solve your problem...it's worth a try...hope this helps.

I followed the steps above. I did remove my usb stick. I applied the up dates. I tried updating the drivers. It still gets stuck. I have tried disabling secure boot and it still gets stuck. I don’t have a secondary graphics card. I guess I will just give up on running mint.

I have figured out that spamming f5 key will get it to boot.

Thanks for your help. I decided to use Ubuntu cinnamon. I am not having any of the issues that I had with this.

Today I downloaded Mint Cinnamon 22.1 and tried to install it in Virtualbox...it failed...

Got to here and stalled...didn't go any further...checksum said ISO was ok.

So I downloaded the ISO from two other mirrors...ran the verify tool and got this...

What the hell is going on Linux Mint...this is the worst it's ever been...getting as bad as windoze.

If anyone else is having the same problem...try another Distro for now.

Hi Bob I use Mint LMDE now and have done for the last couple of years, not had any problems installing it to a variety of machines.

Mint Cinnamon 22.1 will not install in Virtualbox 7...so I tried Kubuntu and Linux Lite latest versions...both installed and ran just fine.

I downloaded the Mint ISO from 4 different mirrors...ran the verify tool and two failed. The two that passed still wouldn't install in Virtualbox.

I ran the checksum for Linux Lite and it was good...the two Mint ISOs that passed may install on an internal Drive but I won't be trying that.

if you are having trouble with corrupt downloads, download the .iso via torrent

The torrent 'client' will check the file for corruption during the download

I use qbittorent as my client. it is available in the linux mint Software Manager of Linux Mint, or online at :

1742637391134.png

It will save. Then right click it, select properties.....then permissions......tick the box down the bottom to Allow executing file as a program
The double click it....it will install instantly

Go to the Linux Mint download page...... : https://linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=319 .....click on Torrent download, 64-bit...save the file.
Then drag and drop the file to the open qbittorent screen...it will start automatically.

You dont need a vpn to download this type of file. You are safe.

Doesn't matter how it's downloaded...the Mint ISO is bad...

I'll start another Thread.
