Hi everyone,
It's been awhile since visiting here. Lately I have used LibreOffice daily with increasing effectiveness and enjoyment. One project where it is invaluable is at the heart of my passionate enthusiasm. I am grateful for the ThinkPad and Linus Mint Cinnamon.

Can someone who knows LibreOffice well, tell me:

How can I set the formatting such as typeface and font size so it is persistent?

What is a suggested way to create a PDF from within LibreOffice if possible?

Many thanks.

From within LibreOffice probably not but you can save your writer document as *.doc or *.docx and then import into calibre and from there you can convert it to any format you want including *.pdf

Can't help with your other question, I use LO very rarely.

Don't use "Save As..".Use "Export As..."

Many thanks. Can you tell me also how to preserve the font, line spacing etc to be persistent?
I think you should test both LO and calibre to see which one produces better PDF, file conversions always lose some quality.

I think you'll get better results with calibre because it provides a ton of options to customize conversion, but it might take some testing to figure out best options.

That is kinda strange you can't set persistent font sizes and types. It's like how on gvim, you can't set a persistent font size, yet you can set persistent of practically everything else.

Oh well.

Oh, I haven't given up. My experience with word processors in quite limited, but I think there is some way to do it, perhaps over creating a style guide for the document. I just have no clue how to do it, and haven't found anything intuitive for it, within the App.

In writer click on menu and go to: Tools -> Options -> Libre Office Writer -> Basic Fonts
you can also use the same method for the other LibreOffice apps [but you have to change them individually

in Writer it is Tools-Options-Libreoffice Writer-Basic Fonts (western)
where it says Default click the drop-down arrow and select your preference the same with the font size next to it

In Calc open a new Calc spreadsheet Go to Styles -> Manage Styles (or F11 key) click icon Cell Styles (leftmost icon below Styles*) Right click on Default → Edit Styles - click on the Fonts tab and make changes there

libre office can write to pdf directly without taking the tour you mentioned. Under file you can export as PDF or you can print to PDF, both work fine.

Yes, I was able to save to PDF from within Libre. It was mentioned that an outside program might give higher quality, which is good to know for the future. For my immediate needs, the Libre method works. Thanks to all.

Here you can set font including size, save config and it should work.

Wow, that is such a great tip and help! I just wrote it out in a notebook, followed it, and it is a highlight of my day. Thank you.

That type of instruction works absolutely the best for me. Many thanks.

Caffeine Addict, just now I installed Calibre, and can see it is a really great program. It is likely to become one of my most used applications. Thank you for suggesting, for sure. Today I finished all the components for my first e-book, and am happy as can be. I will be experimenting with Calibre, as it seems wonderfully made for my needs. Without overly-effusing, thank you.

I installed and launched Calibre today, but without studying it more could not figure now to get the doc file into it. Just had a thought, though. The document is .odt and that is probably why Calibre couldn't find it. Aha!

I would also love to know how to rename and delete files from within Libre Writer. Can you or anyone reading help?

I told you in my post #2, you need to export the document from LibreOffice in *.doc or *.docs format to be able to import it into calibre.

Glad to hear you like it, calibre is on my "must have" program list as well ;)

I did save the text as a .doc file but still don't get it to open in Calibre. Tried to follow the Start Guide, that didn't work either. I am just getting tired, and the heat and humidity gets to me. But it is a great start for tomorrow.

I just tested with *.docx and it works importing as well as converting, can't reproduce your issue.
I exported it not in odf format when asked.

Would you share how to rename and delete files from within Libre Writer?
File -> Save AS
The overwrite existing file.

Not sure what you mean by "delete files".
