Yesterday I installed Linux Lite in a dual boot with Linuxfx {Windowsfx} Windowsfx was already installed.

I manually partitioned so I had to shrink Linuxfx's partition to about 1/2 of it's size to make room for the Linux Lite installation.

After partitioning the partition manager told me I had both partitions marked as / and I couldn't do that.
So I gave Linux Lite's partition a mnt point of /boot.
The partition manager told me that if I didn't format the Linuxfx partition that all of the root files would be deleted so I checked the box to format it.

When my friends Toshibia laptop boots Linuxfx doesn't show in the Grub Menu so I ran sudo update-grub.
Udating Grub did not help.

Opening gparted and giving Linuxfx a 'boot flag' didn't help either.
I tried updating Grub again and upon reboot Linux Lite is still the only distro in the Grub Menu.

How do I get the Linuxfx os to show in the Grub Menu so I can choose between it and Linux Lite?

Linuxfx is on /dev/sda1 and Linux Lite is on /dev/sda3.

I spent the last 2 to 3 hours studying this article.

I'm pretty sure all I need to do is make a menu entry in /etc/grub.d/40_custom using vi or nano, update grub and reboot.

IF I do this correctly upon rebooting I should see the other os Linuxfx in the Grub Menu.

Here's what I have:

menuentry "Windowsfx" {
search --set=root --fs-uuid 6276526d-197c-4d6d-8d4c-ba2b92220e73
linux /boot/vmlinuz-* root=UUID=6276526d-197c-4d6d-8d4c-ba2b92220e73 rw quiet
}

Hope this works. bb later-

Well....after editing the grub.d file with the correct entry it showed in the Grub Menu.
It has an asterik * next to Windosfx and throws an error about the vmlinuz-* not found.

I don't know what else to try.

Any ideas anyone?

Heaps Mate, but you might not like some of them :)

1. How much RAM do you have on that baby?

2. Are you able to boot Windowsfx through the boot order in your setup utility?

3. Windowsfx ships with Timeshift installed by default. Did you have it set up?

More over my weekend.

Cheers

Have 4 GB of RAM on that laptop.

No, Windowsfx will not boot--

I think my friend and I are done with Windowsfx.
He wants to install Puppy aloneside of Linux Lite.

We have had nothing but troubles since installing Windowsfx so I think either tonight or tomorrow I'll be deleting that partition and using it for the Puppy installation.

Thanks for your suggestions and attention Wizard

Have a great weekend!-:)

Always welcome, friend.

Best thing about knocking your head against a brick wall is the wonderful feeling when you stop o_O
