I have read older posts about what others have installed on unsupported MacBooks. I can navigate around distros so long as it does not involve using terminal. I have recently installed Mint Cinnamon 22.1 and that was pretty easy except for a small workaround for wifi. Happy with Mint but I wonder if there is an even easier distro to use for a windows user. My specs are:

MacBookPro 8,3 Late 2011 17" 2.4 GHz Core i7 (has AMD and Intel graphics)
16 GB memory 500 GB SSD

Off topic, but of some importance:

Just so you know, the forum uses some spam-preventive techniques. Your username is, ironically, used by spammers.

I looked over the rest of your account and decided that I'd let your account through the filters. I figured we can always ban you later if you did turn out to be a spammer. I don't normally do that, but your account looked passable to me.

My point is off-topic but you might want to pick a different username on other forums. Otherwise, they may just deny your account because it matches accounts from spammers. Most folks in my position would probably just deny the account and not risk it.

all distributions run about the same, it's just the bells and whistles that make them different. I assume you are not keen on the Cinnamon desktop, if so you could change it to any of around a dozen different ones the Mate desktop is more akin to the one on XP, you can change to this by using the software manager

Thanks, will change it. Oh just found out I can only change after 13 March.

It's fine here, you're through the filter. It's other forums that may just simply assume you're a spammer.

You're one of very few that I've let through the filter, for example. Like, in this entire time I've done so maybe three times.
